I got an email today where I can get the Curve Bender for $99. How many of you are using this? I'm thinking it can replace a Pultec EQ I use on the 2 buss. Thoughts? I tell you, I have spent so much this season on software. I hate to spend more, but I also hate to lose a change to up my mixing, even if only slightly.

That’s a good price. I think originally it was $299 at ua, a massive passive on steroids!

awfully tempting. trying to dissuade myself from this, PA Focusrite channel, Halion 6 and a few others. I wanted to pick up DaVinci Resolve Studio as well, but now I'm getting near the $1000 mark for all these possible purchases. Only good thing is they don't take up any physical space. :-)

Well, I picked up the Curve Bender last night. I also grabbed Monoment while I was logged into my Softube account. I really didn't need either, but I'm a sucker for deals.

that's a smoking hot price for that plugin
it's incredibly good, wish I had been in the right place at the right time
would rather have the Softube than the UAD since it's native

Not sure how the plugin is, but I use the hardware unit all the time. Excellent EQ. Hmm. Maybe I should do an A/B test.

I compared it with the UAD version and it sounds a lot different. The native is much thinner sounding, more highs. I heard something about a missing transformer or something in the native. Supposed to be mentioned in some Tape Op review. Then I swapped both out and used the Noise Ash Need 31102 and liked that better. It's like that new PA Lindell console but maybe even better.

Hmm the noise ash plug does look interesting: like the layout!

I made sure to go back and forth a few times to ensure the settings were the same. I only adjusted two things by one notch each. Later today I'll probably do another test. The only reason I did the test was because someone on gearslutz said they were different. Maybe the UAD version is running at a different sample rate? It's definitely not going to sound the same if its running at 192 and the native is at the 96 rate my session is at.

That’s weird. Softube even uses the demo video for the UAD versión as their plugin demo.

What frequency range is it in?

Hard to pin down a frequency range. After inverting the file with the UAD version, I hear a lot of vocals and some higher frequencies of the bass track mainly(sounds like some of the CLABass fx made it through). Almost no drums or guitars of any kind.

So just to be clear, how are you doing this? I understand you are taking one stereo file, importing it into two different tracks on an empty session and slapping one EQ on each track, with the same settings. Right? And then adding a phase invert plugin after the EQ on one track. And they don't null? It doesn't make much sense that some instruments null and some don't. If anything, it should be a range of frequencies.
What happens if the EQ is set flat?

I was using it on the master fader with everything else. Same settings. Then bouncing the file and doing the invert on one of em in audacity. Stuff that is supposed to null always has. It's plainly obvious just by listening to the real time audio before any bouncing. Haven't really done any other tests. It's not one of those things where the difference is subtle and there's a need to do tons of testing.

Not surprised about that. To find out if the plugins are the same or not, you just need to put them on two tracks, phase invert one of them with whatever utility plugin comes with your DAW, and press play. No need to bounce. Anyway, null or not, for some reason they still don't sound the same to you on your session, and that is intriguing. Maybe a CPU issue?

I still have the demos and can try that. The only plugin I've heard that generated different bounces was Satin because the noise is different each time. Did anyone ever verify what sample rate the UAD version runs at?

I made two mono tracks of the same exact thing and put the native on one and the uad on another. Put avid trim on the uad and phase inverted. Nulls. Then changed one setting on the uad, doesn’t null. Doesn’t explain what’s going on when using it on the master fader. I muted all the fx and used a clean master fader with nothing on it. I’ll try some other stuff. Could be the ID14 or something else messing with latency or other stuff. I notice stuff sounds different at 256 vs 2048. Updating to say I tried a stereo test and same result. People said Powercore stuff sounded different from native too. There could be something going on with the way the UAD satellite is interacting. Some other UAD plug throwing something off. I’m not sure what would be making stuff sound different during real-time playback.
