Thinking of investing in this DAC. The DAC3 B to be exact. I don’t need the headphone amp as such as I own the Cranesong Quantum and Tascam DA3000.
Any users who like the Benchmark? Seems to fit the bill nicely.

Really curious. If you already own the Quantum, one of the most, if not "the most", revered AD/DA's there is, why would you need the Benchmark? What do you think of the Quantum? Are you missing something?

Nope. Not missing anything at all! It’s fantastic. I do a lot of mastering. Need two converters. One to pitch, one to capture. Thought about the Solaris, but it’s more $$$ and don’t need the headphone amp.

I guess you probably know, the Solaris DA is the same as in the Quantum. Have you looked into the new Apogee mastering converters on the Symphony II, the SE 2x6?

Oh, I know I’m using the head as an A/D for capture. I have not looked into that particular Apogee. Should I? Cranesong, Prism, Benchmark...these I think are in a league all their own.

I see it now. It’s a lot of money for what is it...not sure I need all those options either. But it’s nice that it’s modular.

If you have a chassis the module list for $1800 and change.

Ya, sold my apollos and got symphony mkii, the 8 at first , then sold it for the 16. Been thinking about the 2x6 se, as it drops right in, 2 channels of mastering ad/da, plus more I/o. I thought about a used hilo and improved da like Topping/ pro-jects, bit have’t had the dough !

Have always used Apogee. The Symphony stuff sounds great & these (SE 2x6) are really nice. Haven't A/B'd but nowadays I can't see so much difference between Lavry, Prism, Dangerous, Crane Song, Merging, DAD & even the AVID I/O. One should be able to make high quality recordings with any of them. But sure someone here will jump in & state they've heard these & that there are big differences.

Yeah, I don’t have the time to compare all the micro details of these converters and such. I just know I love my hedd quantum. Something special about that piece. Another two channels of clean d/a will do and I don’t necessarily want to break the bank on that one. The Benchmark seems perfect for what I need it to do. Could even use it for hi-fi applications in the house.
