So, I have been thinking about jumping up and backwards to a HD rig. I am not looking at jumping right into HDX cause I don't have the cash for that much of an up grade. I have been contemplating a HD3 system with 192's and a used 2010 Mac Pro. People are off loading the old rigs for pretty cheap. I was thinking that with buying a whole rig it gives me the ability to eventually just up grade the cards to use 11. The 192's are still compatible with HDX and they can be BLA'ed later for less then a 16 x 16.
My reason at looking at the older stuff is for tracking and overdubs. Would really like the ultra low latency, and the ability to not have to De activate plugs when overdubbing. I also do post work.
Any of you guys using HD native in a full band tracking and overdub situations? How is latency?

I guess it's a bad idea. Just trying to figure out the next step in a logical progression of what I need a system to do.
Unfortunately I have to much time into PT to jump to another daw. Tried reaper and I wanted to shoot myself, so un logical. Fighting 10 years with PT it did not make any sense.

I would be using HD Native if there was a straight-forward path to purchase it without having to buy Avid hardware.

Due to the lack of (co$t) worthy interfaces possessing high in/out count connectivity for use with a console, I've been continplating the fm192 bla, that thing is supposed to sound awesome, and if my bla 002 w/ fm clock is any indication, it must be killer. I would rather get into something newer, but this seems to be a more and more viable option as each day passes.

Wouldn't you have to buy the TDM versions of the plugins to use them in HD? I mean the kind you're wanting to use the cards for processing on.

I am not as concerned about the plugs cause I want to get to mixing using hardware inserts. I would have to update my waves to sound grid to get tdm/aax support, but that is it my other plugs are now dead since they stopped updating them. I have not invested to much in tons of plugs. Couple years ago I realized that I could never use all the ones I already had, so I have resisted PIAS.

If you're looking to control latency effectively, then you need a beastly computer or hardware monitoring that either becomes before the ADC/DAC loop or at a fixed point within it (like in the Focusrite Scarlett's where it takes a second feed of the data back to the outputs before the USB bus).
While for post stuff I'd recommend a powerful computer anyway, keeping the latency low will be hard - especially if you want to do something like ADR or record your own Foley/FX and you're already running a large track count. I'd recommend a simple cheap desk with a few pres outputting to your ADC stage. It's probably the cheapest way to do what you want, though it's not very economical with space, and it's not going to really lose value the way the stuff you're looking at is.
