Guys, I have a song whose files are 32bit 48000. I suspect the 32 bit is causing pc/memory slow downs as it is a big song.
What is the best way to convert these files while preserving the integrity? I want to bring them to 24/48. thanks!

I don't think it is causing slow down--the only thing taxed harder with a file of 32bit float is the hard drive. All the dsp/mixer is always running 32bit.
That said, in cubase, you can go into the pool select all and "conform files"...choose to keep everything except make the bit depth 24.

no? hmm...
I mixed this song a few years ago on a pentium IV. For some reason, while mixing on an i7, I can't stack the plugs like i need to. I investigated and found this to be the case with the flew and assumed it could contribute to the problem.

I have only ever noticed a problem with double and triple sample rates, bogging down.

What DAW are you on Heartfelt? Is it still Reaper?

What's your buffer size? For big mixes I tend to move mine out..but then I don't use outboard!

Started in Studio One and then in Reaper and same issue in both. It is about 50 tracks - lots of guitars, several string tracks and several BGV's.
All tracks are 32/48000

Chance your buffer size to 1024, chances are it's just too little memory in your buffer for the amount of real time processing you want to do.

Hmm, I dunno! Is it slow/not responsive even with no VST's? It might need resampling for whatever reason.. anything can do it really. Bit truncation + dither is child's play - Cool Edit Pro or Adobe Audition can batch convert them for you pretty fast.

My experience has been that 32 float files use less cpu than 24 bit.

How strange. Thanks for that, Bob. I guess I will have to bounce some tracks to stems and reduce track count.

Are the tracks different formats? Usually if the software has to resample on the fly you start having real issues. I've run 60 mono tracks in reaper without issue, but I could barely run 30 if I had a mix of wav, mp3, and other stuff.
