Working up some parts for an artists album here. Here is a snippet of the sound I got today. Back side of the 121, 4 inches away from the center of the speaker. Tweed Princeton style amp, T style guitar with my own pickups.
I dig the clarity of the mic and 312 here.

Wow. My R121 and 312 combo tend to be a lot brighter on fender amps. Strange that there's such a difference.

That reminds me I need to send mine off for a re-ribbon. It does sound great on the beater side of a kick drum if anyone is feeling brave though.

Wow. My R121 and 312 combo tend to be a lot brighter on fender amps. Strange that there's such a difference. I find this custom build Muleskinner Tweed Prince with mods is a little more on the dark side, despite having it's Weber 12a125 alnico in it. I set the amp pretty conservatively with volume and tone so it's pretty warm from the start. Then on the Tele, I rolled the tone back a bit, used fingers(not nails) with a light touch and 11g strings( daddario balanced tension). The pickups are fairly sweet and warm sounding with their USA made alinco III rods as well. So that's probably what accounts for the differences I would think.

I did some Mandolin earlier as well, back side of the Royer - same setup. It's quite wonderful sounding.
