Thanks guys, some great suggestions here. I'm leaning towards the Latch Lake Spin Grip as the thread extender looks convenient. The Triad-Orbit Micro 2 is another option; more compact and half the price.

I don't like the look of that hex shaft plugin mount. I can easily imagine that dumping a mic on the floor if somebody is slightly careless in tightening.

The Triad stuff is super well built, very heavy duty. Pics don't do it justice, you have to have one in your hands to really get a grasp for how well made they are. Those quick connects are really secure.
To the OP, I think (but could be wrong) that all the Triad Orbit stuff is proprietary and not able to be threaded on a normal mic stand.

You just use a Triad- IO-RA Adapter and they do make a short stem retrofittable MicroR2 that is orbital

Well, THAT'S really intelligent! Glad you warned me.
I would bet real money that they're not nearly as well made as the Latch Lake stuff.
As far as "having it in your hands" is concerned, have you ever checked out the Latch Lake in person? I will GUARANTEE you that there is not a clutch that's nearly as durable and positive locking in existance. Those winpy set screws that Triad uses don't even come close.

I'll pass.

Yes I use latch lake stands regularly and love them. But don’t knock the triad stuff until you’ve tried them. You’d THINK those ball-n-socket joints wouldn’t be sturdy but trying them in person will make you think again.

I decided to give the Triad Orbit M3-R a try, which has a longer extension arm similar to the Latch Lake but is half the price. The "retrofit" versions will thread on to any mic stand without extra adapters and are not proprietary to the Triad ecosystem. I'll see how these do. If they don't fit the bill, the Spin Grip looks mighty tasty.

Maybe you should clean up your toys after you’re done playing around. Then you won’t lose the things you play with

I don't like the look of that hex shaft plugin mount. I can easily imagine that dumping a mic on the floor if somebody is slightly careless in tightening. There isn't a "tightening" component to the operation, it's a quick-detach mount so it pushes/snaps into place. It's very apparent if you don't have it all the way in. You just use a Triad- IO-RA Adapter and they do make a short stem retrofittable MicroR2 that is orbital Right. Gotta buy more proprietary widgets for compatibility with the industry standards. And more adapter widgets to lose and buy over and over again. I'll pass.
The IO-RA is literally the female end of the quick-detach mount that threads onto any stand. It's the quick-detach hexagonal part that's the proprietary bit, and I'm not sure what you're expecting since there isn't an industry standard for that. Losing the male ends would mean you've been unscrewing them from the mic mounts, which kind of defeats the purpose of using them in the first place. If you'd like to play around with the mounts so that you have an opportunity to make a legitimate complaint about them, I have a couple of extra ones that I could send to you for you to check out.
