I am very pleased to announce the new TBFX platform and plugins from TB Audio. What is it? The idea that spawned the TBFX was the desire to have high quality line level effects in an easy to use and cost effective package. So, the TBFX was born. The TBFX functions in any VPR compliant 500 series rack and consists of two pieces. The main carrier has all the common guts that any module might need - balanced line receiver and transmitter, true relay bypass, and in this case a wet/dry blend. You then purchase modules to do whatever you like. We call them plugins. Imagine a drawer full of cards that you can grab and very quickly toss in whatever the mix may need. They are hot swappable and it even knows if there is no card in and stays in hard bypass if not. In this way, you could certainly just leave it in your chain until you need it. Since the plugins take advantage of the electronics on the main TBFX, which you only have to buy once, they can be very high quality without being very expensive. The goal with all this was to deliver plugins around the cost of your average guitar pedal. Currently, we have our TBFX-CH1, which is and all analog chorus and the TBFX-DP1, which is a DI with DOA gain stage making line out. There are many more on the way! We'd love to hear from you if you have ideas, too. Everything is available either built and ready to run or as DIY kits. You will find the pricing very attractive. Above all, we hope to make something that is very useful and of course fun. The TBFX along with DP1 and CH1 plugins are available and ready to ship today at TB Audio. Thank you, Brian Horvitz

Cool Brian! Can u share some of the plugin ideas u have beyond what's been mentioned? Absolutely. Right now on the bench are an opto gate and a set of sweepable HP/LP filters. I've also been picking on a distortion but put it aside for a little while because I frankly don't like it. Additionally, I've been speaking with some other manufacturers and hope to have plugins from some of your favorite brands here. I don't want to make any announcements about those though until they become real. The format is open so I'd welcome anyone who wants to build a module themselves. There is a developer's guide in the tech docs section on my web site.

Unrelated, but related, any news on your colour yet? Not much to say right now. I've got a second proto on the way which I think should be the final but I can't approve it and move to production until I get my hands on a palette and test with the whole system. I don't think any of that is too far away so hopefully it will be available very close launch.

Sean from Valhalla had VintageVerb running on some kind of hardware platform ( don't remember what it was ) and it sounded fantastic. Could a reverb be developed for your format?

I don't see why not. I am certainly not the person to be developing any DSP stuff, but if it exists I would think that it would be an easy adaptation.

Holy crap...I didn't know these were as cheap as they are! Can I request modulated delay ala Memory Man? Maybe a true rotary stereo pair?

Holy crap...I didn't know these were as cheap as they are! Can I request modulated delay ala Memory Man? Maybe a true rotary stereo pair? Yes, sir. I meant it when I said the plugins should not cost more than your average guitar pedal. And sure, request whatever you like Actually, you're not the first person to ask for something like that. It's bumping around in my head, although that's not a simple one so it'll be a while until I make an attempt. I think you'd dig the chorus that I'm making now, though. Use some external delay for now and then roll into that to modulate it.
