I'd like to go active, just so I don't have to worry about the amp part of the equation. I've had pretty good success with the cheapest ATC 12's...but kind've wanting something a little punchier. I might try out the Amphion One-15's again. I didn't have Sonarworks at the time and I'm wondering how they would translate with that now. I thought the One-18's I had "sounded" better than the ATC's - i.e. more pleasant to listen to - but at the time I was convinced the ATC's translated better.

And yes, I realize the One 15's are passive...

John, the 1 x15 I had , had a broad band 180 -200 ish emphasis which made vocals difficult to assess (I actually took them into the open air to confirm it wasn't my room) so ended up selling and taking a huge bath on them. The importer said they were fine when he got them back to sell on consignment so I wouldn't go there myself FWIW. Of course others have trumpeted them from the roof tops...... Cheers, Ross

Genelec 8351B or 8361. With maybe W371. I don’t think John will want to spend $28,000 on monitors.

Have you heard PSI's? I'm thinking about selling my A21m's to help fund my studio build (which will ultimately have ATC150's, making the PSI's redundant).

I'm really loving my Neumann's.

8351B will be at around $7K.
I put a "maybe" on the woofer extended system. Still falls way under.
The Dutch & Dutch will be around $11K.

8351B are $3,995 each. W371 are $8,995 each.
$7,990 plus $17,990
The 8361's are $4995 each.
It would be $27,980 for the 8361A pair with two W371. With two 8351B and two W371, the price is $25,980
So, no. Not way under. Thats the price of the system(s) you suggested.

Even at your retail price of $7,990., for a pair of 8351B's, which is precisely WHAT I suggested, is fair for the quality of sound you get. The Dutch & Dutch, the direct competition, would be way more. The other I SUGGESTED ("maybe"), for bigger rooms, would be any of them with the extended W371.

Not debating that. I heard that system two weeks ago and it's mind-blowing. Even though I think you swung the bat way too hard, I would have suggested checking out the 8341's instead. Add the GLM kit. Expensive. But less expensive and still awesome.

I love the 8351. However they are noisy a bit.

I'm saving up for new monitors myself. I've got it narrowed down to 8351B or ATC SCM25A. I'm leaning towards the ATC's but the whole point source feature makes me wonder if that gives some advantage to the Genelec's over the ATC's. Plus the Genelec's have the GLM room correction software. I don't think the ATC's do anything like that.

Are you into ribbon tweeters? I had a listen to the newer Adams line a while back and thought they were excellent. The s2v’s were really clear and punchy, but the larger s3v’s were really enveloping.

I second trying Barefeet. I switched from passive ATC 20s to mm35s. And I had One18s before.
Don't know if you'll like them or if your room can handle them right (they're essentially ear-level subs lol) but they are a different ball game in terms of punchiness and forward sound. The translation is superb even without MEME, I've found. Just a datum for ya.

Add the GLM kit. Expensive. But less expensive and still awesome. I've got 8341's for my LCR speakers. They are really fine. To be fair, I've got a sub as well, but that's just so that I can hear rumble and similar crap in live recordings. The low end of the 41's is excellent on its own. Being Genelecs, the imaging is also pinpoint. And being 3-ways, I think the upper mid is also smoother than older Gennies. I trust them as monitors and also enjoy them for pleasure listening. The GLM system is very nice, but you can adjust them manually by DIP switches.

I don't know your budget John, but I do like my Dynaudio LYD48 monitors. With Sonarworks to correct my room issues, they have been very good and non-fatiguing. I personally like the Dynaudio sound. The highs never rip my ears off and I can mix a long time without a break. The lows are full and balanced. The price seemed quite fair too when doing comparisons. I came from Dynaudio Air 6 monitors, so I was generally familiar with the sound, but the LYD48 bring a bit more clarity to the mids due to it being a three way design.
