Just looking for some user reviews on these babies. Ordered up four on a whim and they’ll be on their way shortly. Plan on summing with the Purple Moiyn. Any takers? Hard to find many users/posts...

Funny enough John...I was recently thinking about how Scott Liebers, Dan Deurloo and myself came and hung out with you a bunch of years back. We brought the ML's for you to hear and we were all blown away. You bought them and I think sometime thereafter sold them because...that's what you do!  |

I am currently using them as a gain stage in my 2buss chain. They live right before my AD. They are useful and add something to the party.

Funny enough John...I was recently thinking about how Scott Liebers, Dan Deurloo and myself came and hung out with you a bunch of years back. We brought the ML's for you to hear and we were all blown away. You bought them and I think sometime thereafter sold them because...that's what you do! Well, I DID buy a Sumbus. |

Can they be used to just track with say, with a drum machine or synth since they are line amps? I’ll most likely used them as a side car for drums in conjunction with my Neves and mftwenty5. |

I'm a drum tracker. I have 2 sets of pre's, (14) VP-26's and (18) Heider 312's. I use the 528's as my channel faders, I dont mix so, cant say much there. They really are great. I've never tried them with a drum machine, etc. STEIGER would be the guy to ask on that. |

I track through my pair and reamp. Mixing they drive my Zulu tape emulator.
I’ve tried different opamps in mine with red dots being the most all around.
Gar’s seemed darker thicker ( adjective of your choice here) highly source dependent .
The red dots sometimes didn’t impart enough color but, the gar’s were sometimes to much. I also tried a red dot 1731 combo which was to clean for my personal taste. But any of these were totally useable.

What’s the reason for so many? Do you track drums for software emulation or something?
And what are the main difference sonically between the Heiders and VP26? Why would you choose one over the next?

I track alot of drums with up to 40 channels at a time(sometimes) the 26's are great for jazz and rock, they just seem to always sound, "right" the heiders are for my metal guys. I run differant OP amps on certain pres as well but....that's more esoteric and I wouldnt recomend it till you have everything else worked out.

I’d had gone and bought the CAPI SumBus, but the knobed version hasn’t come out yet or is unavailable. Regardless, I love the flexibility of the missing links being 500 series. And all those transformers. 😁

I whole heartedly encourage anyone that's serious about their recording to at least try his gear. I’m going to have to get another 500 rack...I’m going CAPI crazy! It’s very addicting. I have a pair of FC526’s and love em. I have a lot of comps, but these are just so versatile and super quick. Jeff certainly has captured a market here very well. It’s kinda fun to see these “API” guys squirm a bit. Their prices are way outta line and no where near as enjoyable. |
