Check out the thread in DIY. I built the LA2A. Turned out great! Very high quality cases and great build info.

Gosh I wish I could afford a kit with all the best parts. I would be all over that build.
I heard a shootout video on YouTube vs an KT-2A (hehe) and I was very impressed with the Analog Vibes the guy built.

I settled for Sowter tx, tubes from Bowie and a teletronix meter.

If I ever decide to go in on this project, I'll probably be looking at Sowters. Also because I've never owned any from them. I hear you about vintage iron. The cat is mostly out of the bag and arms and legs are happily being charged.

I built the la2a and a pair of eqp1's and meq's from martins chassis a year or two ago when he first offered them. I am now in the final stages of wiring of the 176 build as we speak. Mostly vintage iron with a few exceptions. also have built several tube mic psu's with his chassis. All good stuff, i built mine from just his drawings and schematics. It looks like martin has really worked to make the directions workable for most anyone with basic skills Love mine and get used all the time.

Would you say a well built Analog vibes LA2A clone fitted with silent good NOS tubes and original UTC transformers at 2,5k euros is something I should jump on right away ? Also, dumb question, but is there a need to change tubes a lot on LA2As ? Or do the tube have a long lifespan ? I try to micro manage my studio dependency on tubes ; I avoid them when I can, because I fear the unobtainiums.

Aside from DIY pride, what’s the advantage of the time and money cost of this over something like Audioscape/Stam if not using NOS iron?

Aside from DIY pride, what’s the advantage of the time and money cost of this over something like Audioscape/Stam if not using NOS iron? I think little and you actually pay a premium for the diy kit, great if you want, then there is also the eventual resale question, with a diy, being I think harder to sell.

It's more expensive than the Stams and Audioscape, taht's for sure. I have two Stams LA2A silver face on order. "US made clone" for the transformers, and vintage tubes option.
The only advantage I see on the Analog Vibes clone is the original parts, mainly the rare input UTC transformers (HA100x...) and output transformer. Isn't the sound in the iron ?

Tubes are tubes, the la2a is not hard on tubes , but I would only buy nos from quality supplier: bowie etc..

Yes and no, the sound of a 2a is arguably more, it just as much in the quality of the luminosit tb4 cell ?

Thanks . Kenetek it is on the Analog vibes clone ; just like Stam. Audioscape do their own version I think.

I think the AV is likely great, but there are always differences, and you won’t know which you prefer without trying and there’s the pride/fun of build, if you value that.

Oh no but it's already built ! That's the thing. An audio friend built it, he's a smart and passionate builder, he built it for him initially.

Argh ok I think I'll pass on this one. According to the seller, another high profile member of this forum is trying to buy it too (I'm pretty sure you can guess who). I'll let him have it.
I'm actually contemplating buying a second Audioscape 260VU. I'm more excited about the 260vu. These VCA bad boys have the perfect sound for my proto rock'n'disco bouillasse. If you're thinking about ordering a 260vu, ask them to add two BP switches, they'll do it free of charge. Flawless crew <3.
