Every now and then the Blue Bottle mic seems to pop up on my radar. it has me intrigued. it is big bucks but i dont hear anyone talking about it. i was thinking of trying the Rocket stage 2 and using the bottle caps (especially B6) as i have heard people like this cap more then the B8 capsule. It’s a shame that you actually have to buy this stuff to test it out as retailers in my neck of the woods dont do try first scenarios. so any real world experience with the rocket stage 2 or the big boy Blue Bottle people please feel free to chime in on there experences. Thanks

The reps for Blue are good people. I’ve met them at AES several times and they’ve told me they would send demos if I was interested. Just an FYI! The big bottle is a killer mic. Every once in a blue moon (no pun intended) they go for sale with a complete cap kit over at Sweetwater.

I had a Bottle for awhile and honestly it’s just too big. Often the singer is playing an instrument and positioning is a pain...my vocal booth isn’t large enough to have a big ass stand that would allow for it to be hung upside down. And it never blew me away with how it sounded.
My favorite Blue Microphone I’ve ever owned/tried is a Mouse.

I have the Stage II and I really like it with a few of the caps, particularly with the B7 and B11. The B6 is nice too. I did a whole EP with the B11 cap which is 67ish. I used it on every vocal. You can hear that here: www.voyagesthemusical.com/I’ve really been considering trading up to the Bottle, but I was listening to a bunch of the samples at audiotestkitchen.com/ and I’m second guessing that now. The B6 sounds killer on it though. I’d also consider grabbing a second Stage II, as I have 2 B4 caps (M50ish) which would make a great room pair. Not sure yet. I do like what I’m getting from the Stage II. I had a pair of Stage Is, but I didn’t like them at all.

I’ve made some great recordings with the Kiwi both on mine and other voices. Great pop female mic. Recorded a duet for an upcoming film and the female vocalist was on the Kiwi, while I was on my U87ai.

I had a bottle with most of the caps for years. A good mic, but never a WOW mic on anyone I used it on. It always sounded neutral to bright, except for the B7 cap which sounded very dull, boxy and veiled to me. It was tough to position on some sources.

It’s a shame Korby went under. Their Kat was a spectacular microphone. I used it with the 12, 67M, a custom 49, and the 251 head. The 251 was killer, the 67M was really nice, and the custom 49 lead me to my 49 chase.
I also kind of wonder how the BLUE caps sound on the CMV 563. They are all supposed to be compatible.

Anyone use the B1, SDC cap? I’m curious how it is.
