I have the wa47 and am pleased with it. It is well built and one can upgrade the tube and cap if you want. So far, I have kept mine stock.

Yep. I've heard many under 1K mics, and the only 47-ish mic that works well is the WA-47. I have a track I use to compare mics. A a new mic comes in, I try t, and I can then compare it to many other mics previously recorded. It's not a true shootout, but it sure is cool to click solo and compare mics, then listen to each within the track. The WA47 stands up very nicely to some mics that cost 3-6X more. When you go to $1,500, then you get some interesting choices, but at your price point, only the WA47 gets you there. My buddy did his recent album with one, and the vocal sounds just fine and professional. Go here, listen to the first video (Man in the Mirror) and the 3rd video, weather the Storm) that's the WA47 through a simple Focusrite interface with Logic reverb. If that doesn't do it for you, nothing will at your price point. Good luck. dustywright.com/gallery

Would be interesting to shoot out the WA-47 vs. the AA CM48T... Chris

I borrowed a WA47 and tried it out on vocals and mono overhead and I was really surprised by how much I liked it. On vocals through a Retro Powerstrip it had a lot of “sounds like a record” vibe to me. On overhead it was more present than a ribbon but still smooth on the cymbals in a good way.

It’s a nice mic. I don’t think you can beat it for that vibe in that budget.

For multi-pattern though (per OP), I'd still try the various Advanced Audio 47 style microphones... Chris

Would be interesting to shoot out the WA-47 vs. the AA CM48T... Chris These are probably the best options. The CM48T didn’t have the size of my old Peluso. Haven’t tried the WA47, but I’ve heard some nice samples of it. Watch Guitar Center’s used section they pop up at decent rates.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your intent. I'd love to try the AA stuff myself. The CM48T has 3 patterns. It’s not variable. Still it is multipattern. Their CM47VE is a little different and has continuously variable patterns, but it’s also $895 new.

Chris Prucher at Barbaric can do a very nice point to point tube 47 style mic for that’s price range.
Disclosure: I’ve done work for Chris/Barbaric and he’s a partner in IAA.

Might check out a Vanguard v13. I heard comparison to both 47 and 251, so go figure, but it does sound quality from what I have heard and can be found in budget. There is a shootout thread here now with it against a Peluso and I think it holds up.

Gouge, did you listen to the track link I provided?. That should give you a very good idea how the WA47 can sound.
I'll make it easier for everyone, here ya go. This is my buddy Dusty Wright, done on a little Focusrite interface and no other outboard, his WA47 into Logic.

Here are a couple of samples of the Advanced Audio CM48T since it’s one of the mics up for discussion. I included one that isn’t me.
CM48T into a Tab Funkenwerk V78M (V72 Style preamp):
Next to the FleA 47, U87ai, CM49, and more:

Enjoyed the Dusty Wright stuff,Vincent's videos, and Ryan Creamer too (hey it had "the snaps" in it! ). WA-47 sounded excellent, and CM48T too. IMHO the WA-47 has more vintage Mojo, the CM48T more "modern". Personally, an biased more towards the vintage end of the tone spectrum. Chris

Frankly, if I were to grab the CM48T I'd probably swap the capsule for an M7 and transformer for a better BV8 at some point. I enjoy that it has a pad. I always thought it would be a nice brass mic due to the pad; trumpets, sax, etc.

If multipattern is a requirement, you may just want to go the custom route and tell the builder what your budget is. They usually know what components will get you in the ballpark for a good sound, and the construction will be the same as a more expensive mic.
Also, the sE Electronics Z5600a II is more expensive, but if you find one used in budget it might be worth a look. I think asking for a 47 specifically in this price range is going to lead you only to the Warm, but if you're looking at more affordable, multipattern, LDC mics, this one is worth checking into.

There are samples of a few of the mics we’ve discussed on here on www.audiotestkitchen.com/Might be worth looking at. Code: Listenlikeapro CM48T, WA47, CM47, etc.

On the subject of "multipattern" it might be well to remember that a real, original U47 has only two patterns - Cardioid and omni. A U48 is also two patterns, cardioid and figure 8.
