Do I press play and then press record whenever I so desire? I can't for the life of me figure out how to get Logic to do this.

OK...After hours of research (I swear I'm not an idiot) I figured out that I didn't have the Record Enable button depressed...so I would hit play, listen to the track that had been recorded, but when I clicked record again, nothing would record...

There are some folks on the web who have put together fairly exhaustive shortcut lists as well. I don't have one handy for X though as I'm still on 9.
I will say I'd be lost without the numeric keypad on the right.

Well, it IS a little misleading. The R on the record enable is already red.

Just for the record, to toggle in and out of record, hit the star key on the numeric number pad.
I actually did the same kinda thing last week. Kept hitting R (or something). No worky. Oh, yeah, hit the freakin star. Problem solved.
Cheers, Geoff

When in doubt, open the key commands window and use the search field to find out what keys are assigned to what command. that is the ONLY way to know what commands are set up. John, normally when you press Record (be it R or some other key), whatever track you have selected will automatically switch to record-mode, and the session will start auto-playing from (typically) one bar before the bar the playhead is in.

I guess that's what the problem was. It's not auto arming the track...although it doesn't do that in my pt's either. The R being highlighted red threw me. I thought it was armed. Although, it's weird. I could just hit record and it would record on that channel when it was unarmed.
