i listened to the samples on their page and it sounds a little crisp kinda plugin sounding. interested if anyone else thinks that.

Shadow Hills isn't exactly the epitome of hardware to begin with, although it's ok, but it wouldn't be my choice for modeling to port to plugins

Gave it a quick shot. Like the most tube gear plugs it misses the nice mid range bump.
The HF range sounded stressed to me - no contest to any real tube gear.
The GUI. Hell no ... my eyes burn and my brain-worx all the time.
It completes my opinion. It's harder to simulate gear with a lot of coloration, mud - artifacts.

I tried it when it first came out on UAD. Didn’t slay me.

Had it on ua: hardly used it.

I really liked it on UAD. But it’s been a couple years since then. I’ll definitely demo this eagerly.

At ua forum someone compared them, thought the new has been tweaked and improved: curious what you think ?

The UAD one is very good, but I never thought it essential. Best thing was that it used 12% dsp. I felt the Sknote SDC was on par for the most part, just a little different.

if anyone owns the UAD version I think you can pay Plugin Alliance a small fee to crossgrade your UA plugs to the Native versions they sell

Has anyone demo'd the new Class A "red" version? I've been using the normal one on my drum buss since it landed. Haven't tried the red yet.

Has anyone demo'd the new Class A "red" version? yes, demoed for one whole month and i changed my mind. i didn't find it very useful in the beginning but now i do. on my drumbus it gives me exactly the fat snaresound i love and the drumbus sounds very compact. and on the masterbus it is neutral and very smooth sounding. it LOOKS like a mojo machine but it really sounds rather neutral. now i have to wait for sale cause demo period is over ...

I bought the Class A "red" version of the plugin. I find it very useful on mix bus. I have used it on a few final products. The SPL Iron from PA is also very good. It's nice to have "other options" besides the UAD SSL. You know, depending on the nature of the mix, the song, the instrumentation.

I’ve only owned a Gama preamp and it’s pretty impressive. But I think the idea of a $29 version (probably? PA stuff is always on sale) of a $8000 compressor sells itself pretty easily.

End of Feb / Early March they had a voucher where any plugin was $29 I don't know if it's still valid, but two days ago I used the any plugin for $50 code, plus the $25 voucher, to get "Any plugin for $25" Not sure if the codes are still valid but if you have the emails, give them a try. I already have a lot, so I grabbed UA Triad. I have most of the $300/$350 plugs now. Gotta love those deals. And it's not just that, most of them sound good. Triad is highly recommended if you like FX. The multiband thing takes it to a different place than the usual multi effects.

unfortunately it was "any" plugin for 49,99 "except" the new ones like SHCA ... in march i downloaded the demo but wasn't that convinced so i didn't buy it. i am slow in learning new plugins. i am not of the kind "instant buy/sounds great/nobrainer at that price" category. guess i'll have to wait a few months til a new sale pops up.

There will be more sales. Take all the time you need. I don't like everything either. I guess a lot of "pro audio" is about being picky, refining your pickiness. You can get a certain amount of "far" by being the person that will use anything indiscriminately. But after a certain point you have to make choices to be able to reach your sonic visions. Personally I try to strike a balance between those extremes. My latest trip is trying to make different things work. Once you've mastered one method, throw it up in the air and try to master another one. It's fun, anyway, gets you out of your habits.
