I wanted to attach a photo in my Vox amp thread and got a message saying that " This Forum has exceeded it's attachment limit ……."
I sent as small a file as possible ( 300kb ) . Should I have done something differently?

Yeah best to use a third party host and then copy/paste in the BB code to your reply.
To get a forum to the point where it'll do its own image hosting and to pay for it and such it needs to be a very large forum to make it worth it to John.
I'd suggest Flickr personally as it has good storage, no bandwidth restrictions, and low quality loss from image conversion/compression.
