I think this is a topic worthy of more discussion. What is best for mics?
I've been aware of the dust related "turn the mic off with the cover on" theory, and I've been using it ..just in case, but is there any validity to it?
Apparently some don't even use covers. Yeah, you don't want stray strands to get in there, but you don't want dust either. This does NOT seem like a good idea.
Boxing them up certainly isn't convenient, and in some cases is apparently not the best solution either.
If there are ever quick changes in temperature or humidity changes in the studio, wouldn't condensation be an issue where plastic bags are concerned?
What about Micro-fiber bags? They breathe, and provided that they don't shed as much as conventionally threaded bags they could be a good solution.

This has never been a thing. If you want to understand why, learn about the relationship between temperature swings and RH and how condensation forms.

So are you saying there's nothing more to say? Plastic bags are the only choice?

How did you read that, or anything for that matter, off a period? I thought that this was the 2nd page of another "mic cover" thread, going on right now, but immediately noticed it's another thread with almost the same name.
I put them away in their respective cases or if within 24 hours use the plastic bags - AC on 24 hours.

How did you read that, or anything for that matter, off a period? Hah In a way that "+1" = I agree, "." = Period = Whatever the last post said, there's nothing more to say. That was my interpretation. The internet can be a strange place.

Plastic bags are fine, and you can see the microphones through them. In a recent survey of 91 of my microphones, only 6% had any issue with plastic bags

I've been aware of the dust related "turn the mic off with the cover on" theory, and I've been using it ..just in case, but is there any validity to it? Mics are designed so capsules reject dust and hairs when powered on. When freshly powered off, they like to suck in every bit of crap floating anywhere near them. I'm sure someone can explain why. Hence cover on before power off approach. Cover is obviously no use if basket is covered in dust. Mic or at least basket needs to stay clean if you want to protect the capsule, cover or no cover.

Only true for condensers, and the reason is ionization. It repels dust. Using a 6 mil poly plastic bag after powering down is great protection, and sure, put a crown royal bag over top of it if you want that pretty luxurious look. P.S. Bullit Whiskey bags are just as good, just not as pretty. And the magnets in the opening cling to most spiders.

I used to just put the Shure bags over the ones I always left out. And you can get "money" envelopes at office supply stores for the rest. Usually blue zippered envelopes. Protected them from dust, but open to allow for temp changes in the room. Foam windscreens do a nice job too.
For typical storage, I bought a couple mic case inserts from SKB that fit into a typical file cabinet drawer.
Baseball caps from local sports teams are a nice touch.

That's my drink (rye) and I've never seen/gotten one with a bag. Am I getting ripped off??? This is important.
