I’d like to get in on this as well if there’s a PCB or two that could make it my way...

CAPI all day everyday. My humble but cherished rig has 5 VP28’s, 5 fc526s and a pair of vp312’s. Also REALLY loving my Soundskulptor cp5176 and JLM LA500.
While I haven’t finished the build yet I have high expectations of the DIYRE eqp5...

If you and I were working together and I brought a rack of esoteric gear to be used on the session, would you decline because you've only practiced your craft with your existing gear?

I don't know your role with the band but maybe you could convince the drummer to only bring minimal toms? "Tell me which 3 toms you'd like on the record." As a musician I'd take great issue with someone saying this to me.

The last AES in NYC I attended I ran into Hutch Hutchinson of Manley, Neve and now Fredenstein fame. I reminded him of the early 90's when he was transitioning out of tech-ing and into repping manufacturers/consulting. I was managing a new studio with a great console/room that was light on outboard gear. I bought a rack of Manley products (all among the first 10 of each built, woohoo!!) from Hutch, who had just begun his relationship selling Manley products through his company Uptime Audio... To my complete amazement he told me it was my particular purchase that sparked his dialogue with them about the products....which led to him ultimately joining the company and designing some of the coolest audio products ever. Apparently, according to him I kickstarted a flourishing of boutique audio... It's a nice reminder that even if you think you're not having any influence..... And it's why, even though I loathe "networking" I'll show up and see who I run into

What's super helpful to me are ASMR videos on YouTube...I stumbled on them by accident and found a whole subculture around this topic....
Autonomic Sensory Meridien Response
Grab your headphones, find an ASMR vid that works for you, and relax...helps me fall right asleep.

5 VP28s and a pair of vp312DI's. The love affair only grows and I can't see myself having enough...

As I worship at the altar of Brian Wilson I was particularly fascinated with Glen's work with The Beach Boys..
One story he told which I love is when recording "Dance, dance, dance" Glen was playing the opening riff incorrectly. Brian instantly heard the problem and said "who is playing it wrong?". They quickly determined it was Glen....but Brian liked Glen's version better and directed the rest of the band to play it Glen's way....
I love when "mistakes" become features...

Wish me luck!

As I've said in other similar threads....after fiddle farting around with other racks with varying annoying issues I finally built the CAPI and can sleep comfortably at night again. CAPI all day long...

They are perfectly good. I have a pair of the Mic Pre EQs. They aren't thick sounding, I think they have a little more top end than a lot of other options. As far as solid state preamps go of what I've owned and tried I think CAPI VP28s are my favorite. It's probably the first one I've used where I went "wow this does something I've not been able to do with something else" My sentiments exactly. For me all roads lead back to the VP28...I'm a Porsche aficionado and I loved something I read about the 928 once...Faster than anything as luxurious and more luxurious than anything as fast... Muscle when you need and want it but in a classy way That said, I wouldn't mind a pair of Dakings in the rack 😀

I jumped on the Manley train early...when the vari mus were single channel . I think my pair are serial numbers 008 and 009. I've had quite a few people suggest the tbar mod over the years but if it was good enough for David at the time it's good enough for me Great to know that. I feel the same. So you use 6386 tubes. Did you ever replace them? Maybe 7 or 8 years ago now? The thing I've come to love about Manley (and all great art and music) is that it took me a while to really appreciate...

I can represent to you that he sometimes prefers VP26s over VP28s in instances where the additional opamp in the 28s is too thick.
Is there something wrong with that preference?

A little board would fit😁 Seriously all summing systems are mixers without features someone else thought you didn't need ! The only summing system I could see using is the discontinued API 8200/7600/7800 with some different Opamps and Iron! My gut says it went bye bye because someone figured out with an adapter cable it could be used to add inputs to a 1608 ! To much cash in that expander! Eric, You would love this side car I've been trying to finish. I still have to build and install five of Jeff's compressors and get everything tweaked and online. I've shown photos of this here on RGO before, but it's taking me forever to find the time to finish it. Ultimately, the dream setup for it would be a Black-face Apollo 16 as convertors/interface and a Silver Bullet on the Stereo Output. View AttachmentDamn that must be fun to play with!

Yep...it's a small opto cell...
I haven't tried any other op amps though.....haven't felt the need because it sounds so great as is.....(it does make me want to try the 990 style in other gear....I'm currently running dozens of 2520/1731's and a few red dots and I really like what the 990 does in contrast.
That eq does look amazing....I also want a pair of his pres....
I kind of look at Joe Malone the same way I look at Jeff Steiger....if it's coming out of their shops I know it's going to sound great sight unseen and be a ridiculous value for the money!
