I don't think I've ever seen a real Compex, let alone taken it for a drive. Has anybody here used both a real Compex and the Boz Bendeth plug? I know the Compex was used on the Levee Breaks drums. Are there other applications it excels at/ what are your favourite uses for the Compex. Cheers, Geoff Hi geoff738We have a nice thread here on RGOL about Compex, I link it here COMPEX Thread and hope there will be some useful info KR H.Hansson

Thank you Maestro Always nice to drop by at RGO. Have been so busy the last time with the drum recordings and studio building. A friend and I are building a large studio complex here in Stockholm and when everything is ready it will be nearly 18-20 studios (10 are ready and leased by songwriters and producers). So I'm working more or less 24/7, for it is just me and my friend who builds everything. Crazy time, but really fun when everything is ready. Have thought drop in on the thread with studio building here at RGO Hope all is well with you all at RGO Keep in Touch /H

I kind've had a a quick burn on this...ultimately went back to using the UA 1176's...I just was more familiar with how they react...seemed like the releases are more realistic. Also, I thought the UA Neve was better, but I wouldn't be afraid to use VMR in a mix either. Yepp, same here!

Great sounding snare .... sounds like aerosmith cheers Wiz Thanks wiz Maybe it does! I know it's hard mixed drums and that might not fall into the taste of most people here on the RGO. As much fun as it is to mic up well tunned drum kit with just 2 Coles mic and have them completely clean in the mix. So it's just as fun to spank the drums in the mix, especially when you have got one of the deepest brass snare during my 40 years behind the drums, ha ha...crazy

I find it very difficult to close mic the cymbals, it becomes so unnatural sound in my opinion. But I always have several options to OH. Nowadays, I have standing two Coles 4038 just behind the neck. Spaced pair OH AKG and one mono mic in the middle Korby KAT U67. Then you can play around in the mix what you want! Many use OH mostly for the cymbals. But I'm starting to use them more for the body of the whole drum sound (of course depending what genre it is) Especially with Coles mics, just a thought! But the funny part there is no right or wrong when it comes to recording the drums. Your ears are your Maestro svart King Regards H

Back and terrorizing my friends at the RGO with some drums and this time with the funniest purchase in a long time. A real monster of a snare drum 9 inch old brass Camco snare (I know I suffer from collecting snare drums, we all have our weaknesses). It is so heavy that it would serve as the anchor to my boat At first I thought I would have to hit a few sample on one of my thinner brass snare 5 1/2 to blend in with the Camco snare, because it would be too little snare sound and too much tom sound 4 this project. But with a bit of harmonic distortion in the mix so it worked just fine anyway! Wonderful to play on and I took the opportunity to have it on my latest job. I can send a pre mix on the drums that I made (it is still in the demo stage). U can almost treat Camco Snare as a tom with his 9 inches deep in the mix, insane snare drum Top Snare: Shure Beta 56A and 57--> API 3124 Under Snare: Audix D1--> API 3124 Squeeze Mic: --> API 3124 Big hug from Sweden https%3A//soundcloud.com/drumrec-com/camco-snare-9-snare

Why spend so much money when you can take a regular speaker 12" or bigger and change the polarity of the connectors to XLR male, voila .... there you have a submic! This is the result of my homemade subkick, does the job splendidly

Ran on this awesome 80's snare today that I had to buy. Will be seeking help for my snare collects fetish soon! First I change snare batter and put on "Pure Sound" snare string, then it may go into the studio tracking. It is an old Pearl Free Floating Brass Snare 14x6.5 ". mrholmes Agree, I often use Drive (HF Enhancer) SSL plug "drumstrip" around 7k on the snare instead of regular eq, always works;)

How are you guys keeping the snare from being buried in a mix? Besides the kick/bass relationship, the next hardest thing that I struggle with in a mix is keeping the snare from being buried. I can get a pretty thumping drum buss going, but by the time I add in the rest of the elements, my snare is usually dull and buried. What techniques do you use? Are you cutting frequencies on other tracks to make room for the snare? Wow, what a nice thread with so much useful tips. Feel I have no reasonable tipps after reading all good tipps in the thread. The boring answer is, a well tuned snare being treated right will sound good in the mix, boring but true

Yep, just got it to my email and the truth was that I did not know what I had missed! Are people so incredibly upset by the delayed update to AAX !? The music does not stop for a delayed update of some plugs, or am I completely on thin ice!

Really nice vibe in the clip, both sonically and musically nobtwiddler . I'm a little curious about how "Cloud 44-A" is different from Cole's 4038!? I assume you've worked with Coles 4038, so it would be interesting to hear what you think how the two mics are different from each other. I've only been working with Coles 4038 and love them and you can not have too little of ribbon microphones Kind Regards H.Hansson

Does any one use anything other than a comp on the 2 buss? I have an eq2nv on the 2 buss because I love the low end spread it gives even if I'm not eqing with it. I also have the VBC Red on the 2 buss for colour, no hardware comp though. Yes, I usually use my old Neve 33115 eq on the 2 bus. Just for a bit of luxury to the top and a little push in the bottom 1-2db only! sounds wonderful

DBX 160 $99.... that's just the one I was wanting Behaves like the hardware. So true! I had a couple of hardware DBX 160VU for several years and when UA released their software DBX 160VU (was a while ago), it was so little difference between the hardware and software plugin so I sold my pair of DBX 160VU hardware. Great on bass drum, snare and bass /H

This caught my attention, X-Phase (frequency specific phase control). Is it as good as they write about it so there's nothing to think about when it is released, come 2 daddy
