I'm sure someone does. Ask on GS? Haha.

Hi Noah!
Where do you typically find yourself pointing the frequency knob on the high shelf of the Electra when doing vocals? That high shelf is the antidote to dark, dull, or boring sound IMHO. Even if you just leave it at its lowest or near lowest frequency setting its pretty hard to go wrong.
One of these days I swear I'm going to make some custom Electra faceplates just so I have frequency labels. Ha.

There was a nice review of the Electra over on GS and the gent compared it to the Hammer. It's worth searching for. Greg and I worked hard to make that thing available at a working man's price point so that folks could have like 4, 6, 8 of them like we do. Don't let the $550 price point deceive you...it's big money sound. Brad That drum video sold me on the Electra...Saving up for one...the sweepable gain is awesome for vox...Brad, see if you can get Greg over here! Will do! By the way, the low shelf is so silly easy for making stuff un-big, or de-bloating tracks where you stuck the mic in the soundhole of the guitar, or the singer was jammed up on the mic. You can crank some super phat low end in combination with the low-mid band and HPF. I find myself using the low shelf a lot in cut mode. It really was a feature created to address my own crappy engineering. Ha. Greg is more of a "all knobs to the right" kind of EQ user. I tend to do more subtractive EQ'ing and then boosting in the high end. It's a testament to the versatility of the unit that two guys with radically different EQ'ing styles can call it their perfect EQ. Brad

I was not. That was another gent, who I believe is an active member of groupdiy.com. The Clariphonic is definitely cool. I really dug it on guitar bus. Greg sent me over a couple PCB's from early prototypes. I need to wire them up so I can get some Clariphonic action happening at my studio.

Ha. Actually that would probably help sell more of them. Then the guys that only have $600 to spend would know what their best option is. Brad

It would be a single channel 500 series unit, as its currently designed. I think I might need to get pre-orders for at about 20 to be able to make a run of 50...something like that. Here's something Sam Pura mixed using nothing but my two prototype filter modules. He bounced all the tracks through the units individually or in pairs. So it's actually rad enough to do things other than just HPF and LPF. Brad

Hey jsteiger I know Clint has these - did he return the EQ's or the pres? Have you seen the Kush Electra? Now THAT seems interesting... I was just going to mention the Electra. I always feel reluctant to suggest the Electra on the other fourm...simply because I contributed to the design. But the truth is that the Electra kicks ass on the 2-bus....and vocals, drums, bass, guitars, you name it. I use it as my main EQ's for everything in my studio. It does exactly what I want a console style EQ to do. Brad

I'm a little reluctant to spill the details until I figure out what I'm going to do with it and when. It was a design I did for a well-known boutique company that I have a lot of respect for, but we decided it didn't make sense to pursue it further. Let's face it--a HPF/LPF box isn't the sexiest thing in the world and it's hard to justify putting money behind something you know isn't going to be a high volume seller. That said, it's still really cool and at some point it should make its way into the world because I do think folks would find it useful. It's just a matter of allocating resources to make it happen. Bill Pearson (drBill...has he joined yet?!) and Greg from KuSh both have my prototypes in their racks. I'll tell you this much. It has variable HPF, LPF, and another novel tone-shaping filter, along with different modes not seen before in a product this un-sexy. Hypothetically speaking here... if I crowd-funded it using KickStarter and sold a "kit" that consisted of a couple fully populated PCBs, a faceplate, and some knobs...would anyone be down for that? The project would be a go if there was some minimal threshold of orders. It would be like one of those model airplane kits that a 5 year old can put together...no small pieces an no soldering required. That barely qualifies as DIY, but it saves some assembly costs. Again...I'm just thinking aloud here. Brad

It's really hard to bring a 500 series module to market for that amount and still have it be profitable without building ungodly quantities and using all off-shore manufacturing. A DIY kit is a different story, although if someone charges for their labor to build it for you, then you are starting to get up there. What if it had some extra bonus features and was like $350 fully built?

I'm still waiting on affordable HP/LP filter sets... not sure 500 series is the way to go. What price point defines affordable? I have a design I'm debating what to do with. Brad

Thanks Jeff. I'm going to take advantage of my newfound freedom to post whatever I want and say that I'd kind of like to never see a big corporate ad on this site (Avid, SSL, Harmon, etc.). If things centered around small mom-and-pop business I'd be very cool with that. I'd rather be exposed to the companies that nobody has ever heard of. John--perhaps you can do something like offer new start-up companies free banner ads for a limited time to help get the word out about those companies. Admittedly I haven't read the thread/policy about banner ads, but I intend to do that soon.
