So I’ve had some weird things happening with my Motu Ultralite AVB. If I leave the DAW session idle for too long (like more than 10 minutes), the latency on my hardware inserts gets thrown off.
Example: I have my V Comp as a hardware insert on the lead vocals. Using Cubase’ I/O plug I ping the insert and the latency is automatically measured and adjusted for. Then I leave to get some coffee, come back 10 mins later and the vocals are off time, I re-ping and now the latency is measure at over 100ms...which is more than the plugin will compensate for. The only way to correct it is to reboot both interface and computer.
It’s maddening. Not sure if it’s a Cubase problem or Interface issue but this ever happened with my old Motu interface...so somehow they’re not talking to each other well.
Add this problem to the fact that every so often I loose all playback. Changing the buffer setting fixes that so it’s not too much of a hassle but still...I shouldn’t be having these issues.
Anyone having the same problems?

AML ez1073...oh so good on drums (and just about everything else). And they compliment vp28’s well (I own both). I'm not handy with a soldering iron but those are very enticing. Are there any people who do builds of the AML stuff like there are for CAPI? The ones I’m referring to are prebuilt 500 series. I think the diy kits are rack kits...but I could be wrong. Either way, yes you can pick up a pair prebuilt, I think I got mine from Front End Audio.

The only time I heard a retro 176 in action I had to stop mid sentence to ask my friend (who was engineering the session) what he just did to the guitar. He had just patched in the 176, and the tone was obvious, and gorgeous.
I have no idea how similar the retro 176 is to the UA175/176...but it’s a really nice sounding piece in my limited experience

Every gear pimps nightmare. The dream of every guy listing a dig002 on eBay. Honestly, I think I’m doing just as good - some of those old mixes I remember dozens of revisions and tweaking forever like a weirdo. Now I’m too lazy…but I get there waaaay quicker. In many ways I think the real measure of how good a mixer someone is is not "how good the mix sounds", but rather "how fast did you do it". I know its true for me. My mixes don't sound so much better than they did 3 years ago. But now, my first rough mix sounds better than "mix revision #4" from previous years. The speed and consistency are getting better and better, even if the end product is mostly the same.

Haha, it is a deep rabbit hole, thats why I just stand in the shallow end...I could easily become obsessed and spend every last dollar on it. For Christmas I finally bought a new turntable, it’s a decent looking deck from Fluance. My old turntable had been broken for years and I finally got around to replacing it. But I’m very mindful not to start another obsession...got enough of those already.
As for the 180 gram thing...I “think” the main difference is that the record will last longer since it’s thicker. If all you were playing is 180 gram records than yes, I’d adjust the tone arm, pretty easy to do once you get used to it (providing you have a decent turntable). But most old stuff isn’t pressed on vinyl that thick. That being said I’ve never had an issue playing the occasional 180 gram record in a deck set for 120/140. I suppose over time though it would cause your needle to wear out faster and/or wear through the vinyl faster.

I’m not a vinyl expert by any means but there are frequently different pressings of vinyl albums, especially if you’re talking old stuff. Some are pressed on (what’s considered) higher quality 180 gram vinyl (vs 120/140 gram etc).
That might contribute to the price difference.

These days I run into two types of doctors (in my day job). The first type are scared to death to get in trouble by over prescribing opiates. The second type will write someone a prescription for 600 Oxys/month and hand them out like candy, these are the guys that sometimes get raided by the DEA...it seems like finding a middle ground (in anything) is damn near impossible these days. At this point if you want something stronger than Tylenol for anything other than cancer or end of life it is assumed you are chemically dependent. Well I am dependent on those chemicals to get rid of the pain. You know that 1-10 pain scale? Even on 100 mic/ hr of Fentynal a 3 was a good day. Was oxy over prescribed, absolutely. Did I walk into my pain Drs office and wonder what 1/2 the people were doing there, absolutely but some of us a very small portion actually need the stuff. I 100% agree with you and will take it a step further. I’ve treated patients that were legitimate drug addicts, hooked on heroin, oxys etc. But here they are in the hospital for a fractured femur, in immense pain, and the RN’s will only give them the minimum dose pain killers because they’re addicts....when really they should be getting like 2-3x the “normal” dose because they have opiate tolerances that are through the roof. I don’t what to say other than good judgement is hard to come by.

I apologize for muddying the waters but I’ve used the Retro Revolver for about 2 years now and can only say that it’s truly beautiful sounding. I have a proclivity towards taking things over the top and the revolver can get there easily, but it always sounds wider, bigger, better ... once it’s inserted, I can’t suffer removing it. Of course, try before you buy! -Rich The Revolver looks like a killer piece. How is it at tracking?

If you need something simple I can recommend the Coleman TB4 (or really anything by Coleman). It’s fantastic, simple, passive, doesn’t have a sound that I can hear and is my most useful piece of gear by far.

So I know this isn’t what you asked for but the Buzz Audio DBC can work really well in the mix bus. It’s a diode bridge comp but behaves like a vari-mu.
I mention it as a lower cost alternative to some of the other really nice pieces already mentioned. I feel like Buzz Audio doesn’t get enough recognition. Anyway, I know it’s not what you’re looking for but I thought it might help someone else reading this thread.

You know better than me John, but can another Doctor "over rule" that assessment? When my late wife was on Dilaudid for extreme pain... We had to switch doctors a couple of times, for her to get proper treatment. Chris Over rule? When my doc is head of the department?
Not likely.
More likely would be switching doctors and trying to sneak something by... maybe.

Those will be some fun audio samples to hear if they ever get released. NASA releases pretty much every bit of data they collect. Yeah but they scrub all that Data as to not reveal things they don’t want the public to see/know...so we mostly see the low resolution versions of everything. They do that, partly, as to not reveal the extent of their tech. Or so they don’t accidentally reveal the location of secret military base X/Y/Z etc.

So...I sent that buyer a message yesterday asking if he could go into further detail regarding the “blown tweeter” and if he could detail exactly what he was experiencing. I also asked if he had done any basic troubleshooting like switching cables etc. I followed it up with another message asking him to thoroughly document the damage with pictures and send them to me...
Today I get a eBay alert that the return has been closed by the buyer...I don’t know what to think...I’m excited, relieved, but also scared something else is going to come up...like it was a mistake or something lol
I was so incredibly pissed yesterday when I got that return request. I was literally shaking in anger...but after a while I just reserved myself to the idea that life was trying to teach me something and to be grateful for the lesson...and then this happens...crazy...
Anyway, I’m still in a little disbelief and feel like something else is going to happen...but I’m feeling a large amount of gratitude at the same time.
Thanks everyone for your comments.

You may be able to that through Cubase if you both have it installed. But I’ve never tried it.
OBS Studio might be able to do It too but I haven’t tried myself.

Only to not be surprised if the tweeter did indeed take a hit in shipping. I bought 3 pairs of LSR28P's NEW before one pair arrived with both good tweeters. Sorry! Was there obvious damage to the boxes when you go them? Or do you think they just got shipped with DOA tweeters? I’d it was shipping related I could file an insurance claim.

I sold a pair of essentially brand new JBL 705’s and the buyer is claiming that one of the tweeters is broken and he filed a claim. He’s absolutely lying. The speakers were in perfect condition when I sent them.
eBay just told me I have to issue a return label, and once I get the items back I can open a claim...but we all know how that’s going to go, don’t we? They’re going to side with the buyer because it’s essentially my word against his.
I’m so fucked.
Any advice?

Same, the z67 is my goal one day...but funds are tight and I’m confident the t-fet is great. I used to own the tc-67, which according to Larry was one step below the t-fet in terms of quality. At this price it’s a no brainer

There is a sale on the ADK t-fet mics right now. Only at ADKmic.com Excellent deals on the entire range. I just ordered a t-fet 67 for $550. At this price I feel like I can’t loose.
Edit: appears the sale is being honored at Front End Audio as well

I've used mine a few times in tandem with my Buzz Audio DBC. It was on a particularly dynamic vocal, going from almost talking to strong singing. The DBC really pulled the dynamics back and nailed down the vocals and the V-Comp gave it the mojo and gentle level riding. Worked great. It was similar to using a 1176 before a La2a. Yeah, I was similarly thinking about maybe using one of my 1176s in line first. Though I'm unsure of just how quick the V-Comp is on its own. I'm still learning the compression envelope and how to drive this thing, but the v-comp certainly feels faster than a La2a if thats any help. Its a really smooth sounding, musical compression. It wont do what a 1176 will do to transients, but on certain passages it'll deliver some really healthy GR (like 15db) without you noticing. So far I haven't been able to make it pump (not that I've tried). What It adds though is a nice sheen and harmonic bigness that makes a vocal sound classy and expensive. I've also just started using it to track acoustic guitars. Just some mild GR, coupled with the box tone make it an awesome tool for acoustics. Haven't yet tried it on bass but that will be interesting.

My sister is about to go through chemo, and in making lists of questions various family members keep bringing up the need to get nutritional advice from doctors, well intentioned, but in my view that's so far down doctors list of 'expected patient behaviors and outcomes' they don't bother unless really pushed, and they don't necessarily know a lot since it's not front line. Doctors get almost no training in nutrition in Med School, its a shame. We have hospital nutritionists but even then they're under utilized and IME work primarily with people with feeding/gut issues, not with people who have food related illnesses like diabetes etc. Best wishes to you and your sister. Have her look into Keto Diets and its effect on chemo. Google "metabolic theory of cancer". There's some good info and some studies that are starting to show the effect that a Keto (or low carb) diet can have on cancer, specifically in conjunction with chemo. As always, do your research.
