Wondering if anyone here uses a NI Maschine for anything other than EDM?

I use it to program drums. And a lot of other stuff.

I’ve got some samples I picked up from That Sound, and I’d like to use them to their full potential, plus the SD3 stuff.

Most of what I do falls under the country/modern country/rock/indie thing...so it’s mostly just using SD3. There are some electronic kits in maschine that just work. I’ve found the quickest way for me with beats is to start with a sound I like, play a measure or two into maschine, quantize and then drag that audio into the daw. Then start layering With different signs and repeat the process. Then you’ve got your audio clips that are easier to move around in the daw. Also really like Polyplex.

Well, that’s disappointing to hear about the That Sound samples. I was on the fence. I bought into the Organic pack and the Sterloid, both on sale. I was hesitant because it’s such processed sounding stuff, and I tend towards more organic sounds. But, I kinda want to get out of my bubble a little and try something different. Just not sure how to beat use this stuff. I’m not a drummer.

I bought it to start incorporating into the rock music I record (think new Bring Me The Horizon), but I’ve yet to use it. It’s still sitting in its box...

Btw - I have the cheaper maschine mikro. I mostly use it as my pad controller so I probably use about 10% of all of its features.

I don’t know if I’d ever have the time to learn that thing. I got a Maschine about 6 months ago and those are my thoughts, overwhelming and I'm not sure I'll ever have time to learn it. For someone coming from a Pro Tools background I'm not sure it could be any less intuitive. My normal workflow with it has been to spend 30 seconds trying to make music and 15-20 minutes googling or watching youtube videos just to try to figure out how to do something that should be super simple. I think there's better ways to integrate it with Pro Tools than what I've been doing so I think I need to figure that out, so that I'm using more like an instrument and not using the "DAW" part.

Excellent explanation.
