AKG D1000- Cool looking mics that I happened upon. Does anyone know much about this mic or have ever used one? 3 position switch for different curves, very interesting.

Friend gave me and wife #1 pair as wedding present in 77, still have but one no longer working (probably the ex's - karmađ). Used them for vocals and amp mics late 70's- early 80's along with the usual sm57/58's for mostly rock/some acoustic gigs. Not a bad workhorse mic back then, liked it a little better than a 57. Used as "room" mics for capturing the band live direct to cassette a few times - have a SoundCloud link I can share if you'd like - captured the moment pretty well overall.

Iâd like to hear that, thanks.

Use them all the time for things one might use a utility mic like a 57 on, just a different take on a dynamic maybe a bit clearer and I can never remember the different switch settings. I still havenât figured out the difference between my D1000âs and D1200âs. Both can be found dirt cheap.

I still havenât figured out the difference between my D1000âs and D1200âs. Both can be found dirt cheap. At first glance I heard the voice of Vance Powell in my head saying, âyou better buy these mics for that killer vibe for your drum room mics!â We plugged them in and they didnât work...I felt robbed of my joy of vintage microphone goodness! They wouldnât even sell them to me broken, So Iâm kind of bummed because they just looked too cool to pass up and for a steal. I told them how about $20 each broken and they wouldnât sell them to me. Oh well, I have bigger fish to fry! Nice DMO!
