I’ve ended up buying the whole range. They’re the best sounding modern mics I’ve heard. The 017 sounds great with a jan 5654W tube. Like a 47 and a 67 had a beautiful baby. The tube in mine is a little noisy. I was wondering if there was a NOS replacement.

You've some serious mics these days J.K. i wont be surprised when you're seduced by a 49! Cheers, Ross Unlikely the M49 Reissue will happen this year, according to a reliable source. And when it does, it's expected to be $12K+. Makes the Soyuz's seem a relative bargain. Chris

I sold mine about 2 years ago (for a hundred less tbh, ouch) and do kinda sorta regret that. Life circumstances. It does have a beautiful top end. I now mostly use an older 87 with an inner tube 87 kit for LDC that I also like and that combo offers good flexibilty. Congrats John.

I’m thinking about upgrading some Fleas with original kk49 capsules. Which will still be a lot less.

Holy smokes, that’s a killer price, John. Where on earth did you find *that* deal? Vintage King - well, Chad pinged me about it because he knew I was looking. If I’m remembering correctly, there were several completed sales on Reverb where they went for that price. This one is from 2019 and doesn’t have the new PS, so maybe that’s why it was cheaper. @johnkenn, From what I recall learning about this from Marc @ Soyuz, the only thing you're missing by not having the latest PSU is a -20db pad. That's it. And... Marc told me (when I was considering a 2019 version) that Soyuz would sell the screw-on -20db pad should I find I have a need for it.

I thought the 0-17 was like a buxom U67, a little fuller, a little rounder/smoother. A definite first class mic. My 0-19 FET is amazing. I wish I had the 0-17 though.
There's nothing about that recording John that jumps out to bug you, it just sounds pro and right.

Holy smokes, John - that sounds incredible on your voice. Maybe my favorite recording of your voice ever. It sounds rich and finished. On the guitar, it seems to accentuate a couple of spots that feel a bit boomy to me, which I would say is also the case with my Soyuz 019FET on acoustic guitar. It's a low-mid thing that can sometimes take up too much sonic real estate for my tastes. I've ended up preferring my Weight Tank preamp paired with my Soyuz vs. my Stam Neve w/ Sowters because of that low-mid thickness in the "Neve." But wow, I'm seriously impressed. I hope you keep it, and I hope you sing into it a bunch more.

I’ll look. I’ll have to listen to the 013 again - but I wouldn’t be afraid to use the 017 at all. First LDC I’ve heard on acoustic that I thought wasn’t so much bottom that it wasn’t worth it. I dug some things out of the vocal, but it was less than I usually do. I’m really happy with it. I’ll say I got that exactly where I wanted it. And that’s rare.

The vocal is everything you'd hope for ; the acoustic sounds great - the slight boom at times being alluded to, sounds to me a little further away for the mic might have fixed it as would a dynamic eq on those spots. Great work John
Cheers, Ross

That's also a great clip for Soyuz to use too. Ought to sell some more 017's. Chris

I've kinda been telling you guys about the Soyuz mics for years. I think they're a must try, along with a few others like Neumann's U67 reissue, Chandler's REDD 47. The Soyuz 0-17 is in that class.
On your voice John, I like how the capsule doesn't get small and crunchy when you hit the high notes hard.

I have an 017 tube and love it on my voice. If you have AS VComp I highly recommend it with the Soyuz, like butter...

With the 017 tube this sound sits in the mix so well I almost never need any EQ on the vocal, if you don't still have one it might be time for another one

I want to try a 017, would really like to get away with the fet being its half the price, but I know the tube is probably the way to go. especially for acoustic guitars and female vocals.

Chad has both. Maybe he can weigh in. That would be quite interesting. Especially if he's used the FET with a tube mic amp, and the tube with a solid state mic amp..... Chad ??
