This is getting too much like Waves. What should I buy? I got the Neold with the first code. Lindell 80 is the only other thing that I even want but I would barely use it.
Lindell 8o is cool here and there.....

I grabbed Neold too. Haven't even tried it yet. If buying plugins is bad then I don't want to be good. Attaboy.

I've tried UAD's LA2A, Manley Vari-Mu, most Waves compressors, Slates VBC, Klanghelm MJUC, and others, but I still don't like any of them on the 2 Bus. I almost always use the Logic Classic DBX compressor which is excellent, and sometimes the Waves L2 when running the final master.
Has anyone here tried the Neold compressor mentioned earlier on the 2Bus?

CLA 76, Black Rooster FET, McDSP, and some others are worse at it than Blockfish. I’m using Goodhertz Faraday now.

CLA 76, overloud 76, Black Rooster FET, McDSP, and some others are worse at it than Blockfish. I’m using Goodhertz Faraday now. The reason I switched to it from others was the hardware-sounding transients. Does the proper 1176 thing to Ss, Ts, etc.

Has anyone here tried the Neold compressor mentioned earlier on the 2Bus? Yes it’s awesome. Auto attack, 100hz filter, and one of the right most 3 dual time constant releases. Cooler and vibier than the Glue, which also works really well. The Fuse VCL-373 is made by the same guy and is the best itb nuke I’ve found. It also pumps like a maniac but on the slowest setting, is a lot better. On the faster, rightmost red settings, you can ride faders into it but it’s all vibe. Consider the Fuse VCL-373 to be c4 for the drum room. Think hardware SSL bus vs API 2500 for color even if they sound nothing like that. I mean Just the aspect of where the SSL works on everything and the API is awesome but some crackhead stuff sometimes.

I listened to the video demos of the Neold V76U73b and the Black Box Audio plug. Eh....both left me feeling like "just another plugin". As hard as the black box demo dude tried to sell the plug, it was obviously a no contest deal. Of course, the price is 1/100th the hardware, but still.... Even though the price is killer, I think I'll pass. I may listen to the Purple 76 demo. Anything else that is really gonna blow my mind out there? At this stage of the game, all plugins are kind of starting to sound the same to me....

I’ve had decent luck with the 4000E strip. I didn’t have anything like it I’ve enjoy it on sort of “pop rock” sessions. It does that 90’s CLA bright thing really well. I’m just talking about the EQ. Not “wow’d” by the compressor or expander.

At this stage of the game, all plugins are kind of starting to sound the same to me.... I picked up the Black Box plugin for like $10 back in Jan or Feb, and it still hasn't made it onto a final mix for me, so I understand your feeling on it. Brauer seems to really like it in some of his recent videos, so I need to spend some more time with it. I haven't worked with the Neold enough yet to have my own opinion, outside of liking what it did on a couple of the Soundcloud demos. But that's with Soundcloud audio, so who knows. I was willing to take a $30 plunge based on what I was hearing. The last plugin that truly wowed me was the Brighton Opto Compressor, but that's a Nebula plugin, and I don't recommend that for a lot of folks. Nebula's a slippery slope. When you've got as much hardware as you do, Bill, I think it's unlikely you're going to find a plugin (especially a "vintage modeled" plugin) that measures up to what you already have access to.

Well, I have a ton of plugins too, but they see less and less use the more and more hardware I put into play. Actually my most used plugin is probably the LTL Chopshop or L6 EchoFarm. Verbs too....

Does the bright 1176, like I remember the Purple unit. Bx_Opto is a very good clean optical compressor, in my opinion. Color and saturation... Neold and Black Box were kind of the best ones, actually.

That bx_opto is still my go to ITB optical. I like it better than any of the vintage emulation ones.

If you like it, check VCL4 by Fuse Audio as well. It's made by the same guy and they have some similarities, imo, but VCL4 is a bit darker and less clean.

The IK Multimedia Opto is pretty good too. I guess I don't use optos that often in a mix. Mostly on vocals for bigger sparser things.

PA is having a few ones which are worth checking out. I bought the Liddell with a lot of skepticism - and ended with OK not exactly like the real deal but close enough to not use it after the honeymoon phase anymore. SSL4 K the same WOW works in mix time. Also, the Black Rooster Plugs we did the LA3A comparison and OK for 29 bucks NO BRAINER - it's not exactly the same but damn close.
The new Sonnox Inflator V3 replaced my hardware on the mix bus. It simply sounds gigantic big wide and open.
All this does not mean that I will sell my hardware. I love to use HW because it forces me to make a commitment to a sound.
