I sold a few things and have recently got one of the small emotiva power amps ( seems very solidly built) and the B1 passive rear port with transducer tweeter and wave guide (like a adam) book shelf monitors that Jim W. recommended some time ago. Actually quite impressed.
Was wondering what people' s experience of using powered sub woofers are?
In my case, I am not so concerned about the lowest notes but getting them out of the small woofer in the b1 so that the mid range would sound as clear and flat as possible .

Lower I see Adam is releasing a new 10 inch for list $399.
Jim has also recommended the Goldrnear Tech aon2 monitors: passive but like a cross between Adam and focal. They are about $4-699 more than the Emotiva b1 I have, so I don’t want to spend big money on a sub?

I use two SVS SB-2000's in stereo, love 'em!

I've got an old Velodyne sub that I use just to check under 60hz. i think the model is CHT-12, but not sure. I do know it is 400 watts and a 12" driver. It's always sounded clean to me and you might find one real cheap.

This is for your stereo system right, not your recording system? If so, I have your answer. I've used every kind of sub over many years. Some of the megabuck subs are impressive if you're trying to make the volcano eruption on a video your watching sound like a real volcano in your room, but for music I would only ever use one sub, and that's a REL All the digital 5.1 connections never seem to come from the same place as the main speaker sound, except the REL. It has a Neutrik Speakon connector and little skinny speaker wires. They piggyback on the wires you already have plugged into your receiver or preamp. This way the speakers and the sub are in time together. REL calls their subs Ambient Retrieval Systems. That's exactly what they do. Take them out, you have a flatter, more 2D soundstage, put it back, it's 3D, you can "see" the player standing to the left, hear a string section from front to back, not just like a wave hitting you. I use the smallest one, and it sounds as deep as I'd ever want to hear in my home or in a project studio. Not crazy expensive either for such a quality product, maybe $500. www.musicdirect.com/speakers/rel-t-5i-subwoofer?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIirGmjpKU4AIVkYrICh045wUmEAQYAyABEgKb_fD_BwEI have the T5, this is the bigger T8, ad it's crazy cheap: www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9b808-rel-t3-8-powered-subwoofer-black-14918-subwoofers
