Imagine how much they will charge for a custom LA2A. One from them now already cost 3500...

Imagine how much they will charge for a custom LA2A. One from them now already cost 3500... I imagine their hardware sales have been flagging due to those high prices and much cheaper competition which sounds every bit as good if not even better in some cases. This new custom shop initiative strikes me as an attempt to hit a reset button of sorts. I'm all for it. There needs to be a place in this world where UA plays a relevant role in the production of quality audio hardware.

I'll be much more interesting in seeing what new devices they create vs riding on the coat tails that they have been for year and that everyone else has too. There are plenty of LA2/3/4A clones and 1176 clones that sound awesome. and cost a lot less. Hopefully some new special stuff comes of it. It'll still be super expensive though but hopefully worth it.

Universal Audio: Looking more like Gibson every day. Nah, not till they get raided by the government, start buying everybody insight, move their operation across the country and declare bankruptcy at least one😎 I must say, based Gibson’s NAMM presence this year, I’m very impressed with the post-Henry J. Version of Gibson. The guitars and vibe and vitality of the company were all there in force.

According to @drew this custom shop isn't really like a custom order shop. Seems like someone dropped the ball on naming it correctly.
It's just going to be a regular manufacturing shop, but they'll have a space for R&D and special projects. So you can't call up and get certain specs made. (Unless you'd likely have to make a huge order.)

Maybe it means they’re getting out of the hardware biz except for special requests.

Maybe it means they’re getting out of the hardware biz except for special requests. Which would be a shame.
Maybe it means they're planning some new processing products that aren't "reissues"?

I'll say it again...It's just going to be a regular manufacturing shop. They aren't changing their hardware product lines.
Neil Young gave them an old 610 board he owns and I think they might be trying to reproduce that, but that's been happening for several years.
