For all techs and factory assemblers that build tt patchpays every day!
Just finished rebuilding one of my 96 point Bittree bays with ground switching normals on half the bay. Man... Talk about tedious! I thought E90 Elcos were bad.
I will never say a patchbay is not worth the money that they charge. Labor alone is crazy high! Not that I am going to pay new prices any time soon.
Much respect to all you patchbay builders out there!

A buddy and I did 6 tt bays for his AWS. Totally sucks big time - I feel your pain!
Feels good when you’re done though doesn’t it?

I can't understand the guys that dont want to buy the elco extraction tool and think it's silly.
That thing saved me alot of grief!
I went into this knowing it was a lot of work... And I am still amazed at how much time and effort it has taken.
I will have to post a some pics when it's done. Not sure it's ever going to be done, since I left myself some expansion room.

Noooooooo....not room for expansion!?!?!??!!! Haha. THey're never done. I've accepted it. But I'm probably as close to done as I could ever hope to be. And yeah, unless you're PERFECT, I can't imagine ever doing it without the extraction tool. |

I soldered about 400 tt patchpoints in my bays, another 144 elco points, maybe Another 600 db25 points, plus a couple hundred XLR/TRS points just for the racks and such. Yeah it wasn't fun over all, but it made life since very easy! |

Yeah, I am currently running 6 bays. Fortunately all but one was normaled correctly for my purposes.
I started using solder elco pins... I abandoned that practice after the first 3 bays. Broke down and bought the crimper, much faster and lower profile in the cable ends. I still hit them with solder!

Patchbays and multipin, the internist circle of hell, complete repetitive boredom. Some simple tips to make it easier.
1 take the jack pair out of the bay for soldering, yeah when you think about it you go duh but I have seen a bunch of great techs prefer to struggle.
2 using the solid core Belden solid core that ADC uses in the punch block bays, really easy to solider!
3 a heatshrink printer makes it easy to stay organized.
4 Test, Test Test and build your own adaptors to make testing easier.
5 no matter how good you are and how many bays you have wired having the pin out layouts of all the connectors on the wall in front of you is a great way of to keep from making stupid mistakes.
