Probably been discussed many times, Looking for a good Fender amp style spring reverb to use in the mix. Record guitars with no verb and would like to recreate as authentic as possible amp style spring verb. The softube is on sale for $35, anybody use it? I imagine most will say UA AKG, which is more $$ and eats into my UA SSL bandwidth.

If you don't mind routing in a guitar pedal for the outboard effect, that Electro Harmonix Oceans 11 has a spring reverb that is exceptional. Has some other good reverbs too, but the spring is one of the best I've played outside of an amp.

Softube is pretty good, you should demo it!

I use the PSP spring reverb pretty regularly. It does a good job at a more guitar amp style spring reverb, opposed to something like a BX20. It’s usually pretty cheap. Also PT12 and up has a “Black Spring” plug-in in that is Avid’s attempt at a Fender style spring reverb

The Softube spring reverb has a good old school kind of vibe. For that sort of thing, it works great. Definitely worth demoing. I also have the PSP but rarely use their plugins anymore due to them not scaling correctly on high 2k and 4k monitors. I have a lot invested in their plugins but they don't seem interested in updating them. A shame. I'd go with Softube.

It appears I demoed Softube in the past. Gobbler doesnt give me an option to demo. I just cycled thru options I have, the fav was GTR rig 5, I then downloaded the Upcoming U-he spring demo. I like them both in different ways. So, I have a mono instance of each hard panned and it soulds pretty nice, lol. How do I reset the Softube demo?

Never found one that sounded close to the real thing. Fave I had was a Zerotronics Coolsprings Mini LE, stereo with transformer balanced outputs, weird shaped springs from an old Lowry organ. I really regret selling that... zerotronics.com/mini-le/index.html

Well that took about 2 min to realize the Softube & the U-he both Sound pretty good. So good the GTR Rig 5 spring sounds dull. Hard panning both of these is pretty darn nice.

You tried the spring in Realverb Pro in UAD? Also, I love the Audiothing RE201...you can use just that spring too.

Dangit, forgot about realverb pro.. thanks and I will give it a try. Checkout the U-he, free download until jan. Its “beta” at the moment. sounds really nice. Having it on one side and softube oncthe other makes a nice verb spread.

My personal favorite is "Great Spring" from Tim Petherick for Nebula. The good news - it's like five bucks. The bad news, it's Nebula. That being said, I was reviewing my busses today to check what spring I was using - four other preset busses also use Nebula verbs - the 140 and BX20 from VNXT and a small room and large room from AITB as part of their EAR collection.
I have a love hate thing with Nebula, and didn't use it for about five years, but brought it back into my life specifically for these reverbs.

I like the Aegean Spring reverb, affordable and has a demo period.
But for the classic guitar reverb swim, it needs to be before the amp, imo.

I love great plugins, but for an even better solution get a Radial Tank Driver, and plug it into any reverb tank and mix using it as a hardware insert. It's been a tried and true solution for me, not only for guitar, but Hammond and occasionally vocals too.

Agreeing with sean, about PSP's spring reverb, it occurs to me that PSP doesn't get a lot of love on this forum, but all their stuff is solid as far as the stuff I own. Nice guys (I've met them at NAMM,) too.

The built in spring (black something) from avid sounds pretty good. Wish it was stereo, but if it’s a mono guitar part...

Nice guys (I've met them at NAMM,) too. Couldn't agree more about PSP's stuff. Their Nexcellence reverb modeled after a Hammond cabinet necklace reverb is a real sleeper--dark, lush, and organic sounding.

Vermona VSR 3.2 is a mono spring, more affordable than the Radial tank driver and it's a ready to go spring reverb.
