Great thread. The sleeper reference for me but I haven’t used one is the new apollo x, which I think might be in between the audient and Midas but also no fan. Really? I would think the Apollo pres are better than Audient or Midas. I've always been really pleased with them, even when not using unison plugins. But again, I doubt the differences are so huge, that once you go into mixing you couldn't get the sound you hope for via EQ or dynamics. I tried the silver apollos when setting up my mobile rig and liked the Audient and Midas better, much better. As a matter of fact, when I tried the apollo, I compared it to my lynx auroras, rme UFX, Audient ID22+asp880 and the Midas preamps and it was my least favorite by far, as far as conversion and preamps go. Now I know they've put out new products since so who knows but the experience left me unimpressed, I felt like it was trying to do too much.

The silver face was a major let down for me. So bad in fact that I went back to my Apogee 16X and just stayed with the 16X. In fact, my 16X’s still work fine for routing I/O and using outboard. Then I went to the Apollo MK2 and it was a big difference, but still hasn’t satisfied the converter craving. Now I’m using Dangerous Convert conversion and I couldn’t be happier, however I need to put a lid on this converter problem because now I’m having latency issues with Studio One 3 and the Apollo BF mk2 interface. Studio One worked flawless with my Apogee 16X’s with no latency with my outboard. Maybe it’s a setting, but I’ve exhausted all options so far.

Does it have to do with the fact that you can't bypass the apollo console ? ( at least you couldn't when I tried it ) The latency on the apollo was a lot higher than all the other systems I tried, though you'd still think you'd be able to compensate for it somehow. My converter craving won't be satisfied until I get a Symphony MK2, I wish I'd never heard it because I don't see how I'll ever be able to afford it in the near future!
