From the information I read, "That's All Folks" on accepting new orders, for his assorted microphone services. Repair, etc. of existing clients, will continue for some time.
He has a new business venture, that Michael said is going very well.
I have a feeling that this will really drive the value$ upward, of the various and sundry microphones he's sold/modded over the years. Geez, I hope that stock 319 that's due in tomorrow, sounds extra good.

I would guess (and it's really just a guess) that since he was banned from GS and since companies like 3U, Warm, Stam, etc have started offering the equivalent of very good DIY quality at reasonable prices, his business has dropped off a lot.
Again, that's a total guess. And he's got some various kind of new-age sonic-therapy stuff going on. Can't remember exactly but I've gotten the promo emails for the last couple of years.
I would guess that in the current climate, making a living off of swapping capsules and removing headbasket mesh is pretty difficult. Especially without being able to promote yourself on GS.

My MKL2500 is just staring at me now: "Dude, you always planned on sending me in but put it off. What are you gonna do?"
I agree with everything Ragan said above: as a customer I wouldn't buy my pair of modded MXL v250s again, even though they are great overheads and good all arounders. I'd get the Roswells or one of the Warm Fet offerings if I were starting over.
But the 2500 only cost me $99 bucks ages ago...

Yes, super helpful. I don't mean anything disparaging. Just that the paradigm may have shifted away from a market that's willing to pay top dollar for capsule swaps on MXL's and whatnot.

Turns out that mine is genuine Russian and he doesn't mod the genuine ones. That might have changed since, but that's what I was told.

What is GS? Some antiquated listserv or electronic bulletin board where people with anger, rage, depression and various mental disorders would congregate to take the piss out of others. Also, there is an unsubstantiated rumor that certain hate groups may have evolved out of it . . . I may have just started that rumor. Details are scanty, at this point.

However we were able to fix the grounding issue so it’s pretty usable as is. Except I don’t really use it.

I had a Russian MKL2500 for awhile. It was fun but nothing to write home about in my opinion. Those capsules just always have a bit of a bitey edge to me. I’ve had a bunch of 219s and 319s (and still have a couple). They’re cool character mics to me but not something I find all that versatile. Mostly they just look cool. I put them next to my 3U stuff and they sounded like toys by comparison.
Edit: oh and the friggin tube is soldered in those 2500s. Have fun trying to roll tubes in that little bastard. I put a socket in but it was a big pain in the ass and an extremely tight fit.

My studio partner’s Mojave just needed retubing and it didn’t have a socket either!

All very funny (it is!). But I guess I'm gonna be "that guy". For Classic Soul and/or Reggae vocals, I couldn't imagine NOT having my stock 219. Also for Crooner style vocals, it sounds very similar to an old/expensive ribbon microphone-except at the very top 10KHz+, you can tell it's a LDC. Check out the YouTube "Mic Shootout" videos of Tigersonic Studio sometime, as an example, definitely not a "toy" microphone, on the right source. IMHO edges out the U87, on their female vocalist-Gem. Also check out the video there of Jam Nawaz, covering "Stacks". Stacks-Warm WA12-Oktava MK-319 is the name of it there. This guy has a great voice! Vocal style reminds me (of a very high tenor version) of classic Cat Stevens. All this = "case closed"! Big +1 on it not being an "all rounder" though, very much a character mic. Absolutely my U195 for anything "modern", and its FAT switch mode is also terrific, at being another character mic flavor. The way our dollar is going, before we know it 12K for a pair of MJ 12's, might be a great deal! Chris
