Thinking of new monitors and after the initial high praise for the Shape release wondering what you're all thinking now particularly regarding the Shape Twins. Cheers, Ross

They have merit: more than the hype! I went back to 6.5 though as I felt my room wasn’t big enough to really support the twins. I think Dr Sax has a larger room ( thought I better clarify what was larger? and is still digging his Shape twins?

Still loving mine. They have been translating very well. At times I feel that they are a just a tiny bit bright in the highs, but my Mixes are continuously translating well. So in the end that’s what counts - I am very pleased. They also are great for clients because the dispersion is pretty wide. I think they represent big value for the price. They are Great monitors. And... although not as important, they look fantastic too

Dr what dsp settings do you have ? I’ll have to check. I messed with the settings a fair bit when I got them. I don’t remember offhand. But I do remember turning the lows down. When I get a chance I’ll check

Dr what dsp settings do you have ? In my room, I’ve got the bass at -5, mids at -2, and highs flat. Mine are pretty close to a wall hence the low and mids needing to be backed off. They sound Great and as I mentioned before... they translate very well

I always find dsp a little counter intuitive but I guess you are really adjusting based on room characteristics to get to flatter sound ?
If room sounds boomy reduce LF or if bass sounds light increase it to taste ?

The top end is the same: same tweeter and dsp. When I first got the 6.5, I was struck by the tone and texture of the mid to lower bass: like I could feel the texture of toms! I liked my amphions one eighteens but found their sound envelope to big for my room:almost voluptuous. But, I preferred the focal extra top end info, brighter but still natural nor harsh. The twins seemed faster all through the mids and lower bass, more present and forceful but a less of that texture and tone that the 6.5 seems to have. My room btw is roughly 20x12x7.5 and I have LEDE with a fair bit of absorption and diffusers. If your room is larger, I’d say take a flyer in the twins and or see if you can demo them both. They are both very very good value!

Also, I have another set of monitors in my room that I know inside out and have been working on for the last 10 years. So I know my room... I just used the DSP on the Focals to compensate for room and placement, using Music I know intimately. And I’ve been very happy with them. I also agree with your comment about the Focal’s tweeter. It really does let you hear great detail in the high freqs
