Sounds like it’s a pre-transformer attenuator then? Someone pull one out of their rack and take some photos, we’ll sort this ricky tic. Or maybe better.... free image upload

Looks like the output potentiomenter comes from the transformer selector switch and goes to the XLR output.

So it has a warm clone of a Jensen 918 and a Melcor 1731, didn't know that. Just eyeballing that photo, though, I'd guess it is a three deck pot like CAPI's design.

Yeah it's definitely post-transformer looking there. It does appear to be a ganged pot! Curious. A rotary switch pad seems like it'd have been more tolerant of resistor error for balancing, maybe they just assumed if you're running a hot enough signal that you have to turn it down that the balancing isn't very critical?

The output control needs to be on full unless you need to attenuate the output. That’s why you’re having that problem. Holy crap. No only did that fix the problem, but it's a different pre-amp with the output cranked. THANKS! I love the TB 12. I've cut some damn good tracks using that box. It's top shelf. Every track on this song was through the TB 12. One of MJB's tunes. https%3A//soundcloud.com/herb-music/other-side-of-town

Absolutely a fine box with a bunch of different sounds to be had for the tweaking!

Yes its pretty clear from that photo the attenuation is post tx. Transformer -> Via yellow cable -> Attenuator -> via black cable -> Output.
Then you can see they used a dual pot (used for attenuation). The only reason for the added expense of this would be for balanced signals eg after transformer. If it was pre transformer they could have and would have used a single pot.
