Curious to hear more of your thoughts as times goes on! I prefer these to the Neve family of pres in general use... Sick on drums!

Tracked vocals with it all week. A very intriguing, naturally pleasing sound and everyone is very happy with the results. I don't know if I can describe it as thoroughly as nomatic but I too am finding I have to do less work, which is a nice readjustment to say the least. Feeling is still the same as initial tests, big and open and the more I use it I feel like there's a silvery cloud around the sound that presents what’s there clearly but also seems to give the vocals a little help. Never seems to force itself on the sound yet things sound finished quicker. I'm going to continue to explore with tracking instruments but I'm definitely keeping it and will likely get it upgraded to 4 channels sooner than later.

What pre's were you using before you use the Teegarden and that you compare with ?

With this singer in this room with the same mic I was primarily using a BAE 1073mpf. I've also used a jfet Hamptone, straight into a ZOD (which I really like), and a few times used the pres in the Silver Bullet. I was in no way disappointed with any of those, I just found that this week with the Teegarden vocals were falling into place with less work. Maybe it's new gear justification or maybe it's just an unfamiliar tone so I'm taking a fresh approach or maybe it just fits with what I want to hear. I'll know more the more I work with it but so far I'm really digging it. Thanks again to nomatic for pointing this out.

Hi everyone, you’ll have to forgive me, but I don’t spend much time on audio forums. I just don’t have enough time. I happened to see the thread pop up in a search and realized I hadn’t checked it in a long time. I am so pleased that some of you are actually getting to experience what the Magic Pre can do for your sound. Hearing ‘nudwig’ say the Magic Pres sit better and require way less work gave me more affirmation of what I’ve experienced for a long time. You see, I put out the Magic Pres because after I built the first prototype, I knew this was the case because it was the exact thought I had. I was able to use far less additional processing to get the sounds I had always been going for with other top level preamps. It’s just as simple as that. No hype, no cute buzz words, just the best quality tool I would want for myself and all of you. I could go into long stories about the lineage and history of this preamp but rest assured, it is no clone or copy of any microphone preamp ever released to the market.

They have been killer with my 47 clone and my dynamics! In full discloser I like Brett's stuff so much that I am a dealer

I just pulled the trigger on one after all the good words here and seeing a YouTube video of a guy who put together a little jam with nothing but a 57 into the Magic Pre. I liked the tones so thought why not. Only 2 channels for now, figure if it works for me I can investigate getting 2 more added into it as 4 channels in 1RU would be perfect for the travel rig. That YouTube vid you mention sounds very warm, vintage, “pre-mixed”—so the “big clean open” adjectives have me scratching my head. I know these terms are incredibly subjective, but for those who own the pre, how do you find it compares to what we hear in the vid?

The Preamps sound like the source but larger and slightly warmer in my experience. The instruments all sound kinda dark in the vid.... They are doing what they do....

Yeah I like the darkness in the vid—I was curious about whether it was primarily a result of the mic-ing or the preamp. You’re saying the preamp typically has a more open sound then what we hear in the vid. Bummer.

The preamps sound giant but source dependent.. A large image and clear like a great tube design but faster.

I agree with nomatic, the Teegarden is what I use when I want things to sound as they but with just a little more. Has less of a footprint than my Neve or API options but if I want to slow something like a snare down a little bit I'll follow it with a LTL Mass Driver. I like it on everything but especially so on guitar cabs as it stays open which is nice when there's a bit of overdrive going on, lets me use a wide variety of mics as it doesn't back you into any tonal corners.
