I think the thing worse than schills pushing gear is schills slagging gear because of a undisclosed relationship with a different manufacturer! What the Warm are you talking about?

I think the thing worse than schills pushing gear is schills slagging gear because of a undisclosed relationship with a different manufacturer! Definitely, I remember a few suspect posters undermining threads at the purple site, and you could see there was a hidden agenda. Only on rare occasions do I bother to go there anymore. To Hadaja's post, it depends on your personal integrity. I have a friend who might fairly be called the Dean of Analog Hi-Fi. He's a senior editor of a magazine, runs a superb website and is brilliant writer. He gets offered the finest gear known to man all the time. A review from him can make or break a company. He NEVER keeps what he's offered, but does occasionally buy something he really likes at a manufacturers discount. Some of his colleagues are quite happy to keep a $50,000 piece on "permanent loan". So, personal integrity is important. Most of the guys here can sense if something's fishy in a gear review or if comments seem extremely biased. So, don't worry Hadaja, everything cool. Just sit back and appreciate how much you can find out about things now from the comfort of your chair. I watched two very good mic shootouts this morning over coffee!

I used to post constantly about op amps, and a lot about Gary Barnett's GAR op amps. Eventually Gary contacted me and I did some beta testing of new products, and proofreading of some of the build guides. That never would have happened though if I had not already been a "huge fan" of his work. In fact it was a really thrilling experience for me to be involved with a product designer in some small way. I don't really have any agenda there, just a lot of good vibes. It's a great product and I have no shame in recommending them.
I also have recommended ISK microphones, as a budget option, and FabFitler Pro L limiter pretty often, but I also have no issue with promoting those products as I think they are top of their respective classes. Those very small involvements from me have come from simply being a prolific poster over time. I still use Pro L2 on every mix, but the ISK microphones I gave to a friend in need who is more at a starting point of recording, rather than an advanced engineer. I feel nothing but goodwill from the people that got me involved in that. If a company is willing to promote their product with no strings attached, I feel no remorse in engaging with the product if I really like it.
This is all small potatoes kind of stuff relatively speaking but I feel honored to have some tiny part in these companies existences.
