I've used these things for....I dunno....15 years? Never had a single problem. Unlike iLok....ehm, but today, I go to run Cubase...nada. "some licenses can't be found". Huh? so I run the eLicenser app (I'm on the MacBook if this matters)--and it has labeled one of my two eLicensers as "broken".
"This eLicenser is broken and can no longer be used. Please contact your software vendor for a replacement."
Huh? So, it SEES it....even reads me the serial number....but, says it's broken and need replacement.
Now--if it saw it was physically failing--I could've simply transferred all my licenses to the OTHER one, which literally IS here for that reason--as a backup. I pulled it out a few weeks ago to order up a second demo period for Cubase 9.5 to check out the Hermode Tuning (see other thread)....but, the big dollar old Cubase license and all the VSL stuff is on the now "broken" one.
Has anyone run into this? This couldn't come at a worse time--I literally am doing my very rare string arranging...and VSL no run without the license on the 'broken' one....I'm going to try it on the PC....if I can get it to recognize there, maybe I can transfer the licenses to the second dongle.
...and obviously contact the vendors--but, Steinberg and VSL....isn't someone going to want me to send them the broken one? If so....which one? Will they somehow verify that it's indeed broken and mark it that way on the eliscener server so the other can see that?

And the decision to go back to Windows just got made. Not only did both keys work fine plugged into the Windows box....but, I went ahead and transferred them all onto the "good to the Mac" one....so, NOW....the licenses seem to all work cross platform again from the one key. Still, though, it was working last time I plugged it into the Windows box--it's working NOW plugged into the Windows box....plugged into the Mac? One of them is "broken". Still. Different ports and hubs all together....registers immediately when I plug it in, but says it's "broken". Panic over for now. I've transferred the Cubase string arranging files to the Windows box to finish them.

Still, though, it was working last time I plugged it into the Windows box maybe that was the problem?

That I plugged it back into the box it worked for the previous 14 years plugged into? ....that ultimately still works and allowed me to fix it even for OS X use? Yeah, it prolly got the dreaded "Windows Cooties" all the Apple Kids warned me about on the playground.

All of the sudden Cubase 8.0.40 won't allow me to import any MP3 audio files. The Mpeg Layer3 option isn't even in the import audio menu as an option. Steinberg told me to trash preferences. Didn't work.....

I'm told the the Mac can be finicky about that - not all the time, but sometimes at seeming random - while Windows is far more tolerant.
