This is one of the annoying (the one, right?) things with trying to track Vox in PT by myself. In Cubase and Logic, You can just record multiple takes over an existing take and then it appears in the Lanes and you can select the take. When I do that in PTs, it records over the previous take. I thought maybe I had record in destructive mode, but that's not the case. I think you can loop record and it will put it in playlist automatically, but I like doing sections at a time and that would require me to go back and re-identify the section everytime I moved on in the song. This is really a PITA.

Well at least PT works...the newest iteration of Cubase is freezing with two tracks. Sigh

You need to just record in in Loop Rec mode and enable auto playlists. That way you can select and area, say the Chorus 1a and set a pre and post roll time. Then it'll just loop that selection and every recording pass will put the previous take down into the playlist menu.

The option for auto playlist is in the Preferences and under the Operations Tab. Then in the Record area towards the bottom.

Or in the Editing tab enable "Send Fully Overlapped clips to Playlist"

Hmm. I thought all DAWs were natively non-destructive these days. Guess I was wrong!
Reaper is non-destructive for sure and just pulling a loop region and hitting record will give take after take which can be in lanes, or cycled through with a keystroke.

The reason I like the Cubase Logic approach is that I can go to the mic, use a remote to record a bunch of takes at my leisure, then when I’m done, fast forward to the next section without taking he phones off, going back to the computer, selecting the region I want to sing, then going back and putting phones back on, etc.

I’m done picking up new daws...Pro Tools is still 99% of what I get and Cubase would serve me fine to work in exclusively. I know Logic the least of the three, but it’s full featured too..:not enough brain space to add another.

I like using Playlists, mostly. But it does depend on punching and the previous recorded audio on that track. Depends on the situation what you can get away with.

Seems pretty tricked out.

I have my iPad in my Avid Dock, so when I need a remote I've been using a free app called Quadro on my iPhone. I've customized it to record, stop, start, undo, etc. Works really well.
