Hey guys, Long story short, I am friendly with a few guys at the local guitar shop and they sent a guy my way who wanted some help setting up his home studio. To be honest, I primarily work on Pro Tools HD rigs, so I don't have a real POV on the current USB stuff. I'm looking for recommendations for an affordable, intuitive to use interface. My first thought is the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, although he only really wants 8 inputs. As close to plug and play as possible, please. Client is an older guy, close to retirement who just wants to document jams with his buddy and record songs for his wife. He apparently helped build the tech building out at Skywalker, and has always dreamed of having his own music room, so he finally built one in his barn. Because he doesn't have a handle on how this stuff works he bought a Behringer mixer that only has stereo/dual mono digital io. And he's struggled with it, mightilly. He's also on Logic, which hurts my head, but I know many of you love it. Any alternate boxes in the $500 or less category I should consider? The guy has major hearing loss too so, you know, please don't tell me he needs a Symphony rig.

The Focusrite interfaces are pretty good. If he didn’t need so many inputs, a UAD Apollo desktop model would be cool

The MOTU AVB ultralight or the 1248 are good all ‘rounders. And pretty easy to use after initial setup.

Avoid RME, though rock solid for drivers & sound, the learning curve on TotalMixFx is not for those prone to frustration.
