Title pretty much says it. Anyone got one =- or a pair?
I did my research, hunted around for clips and ended up pulling the trigger on a pair of the LCP4040's.
They've been on order for awhile. But shipping out soon. Looking forward to using em.....
This is the year of the EQ for me I think.....

Lucky you! I've watched a few of the video demos on youtube, and I think they sound phenomenal! Definitely let us know what you think after working with them.

do they make stepped version with finer gain increments(0.5dB)? No. The Freq's are stepped, but the boost / cut are variable pots. They do make a mastering oriented version (option) where the boost / cuts are +/- 6dB instead of the standard +/- 12dB. But I opted to stay at +/- 12dB. I've heard it mentioned by others that master that the +/- 12dB version actually works out pretty well for them. I'll be doing a fair bit of mastering on mine as well.

I got the Miad's today!!! They were packed well. Customs fees were minimal - under $40. All around, the shipping, customs, etc. were pretty simple. I have to say, I've been a bit on edge about this cause these things cost a LOT for an EQ. A serious entry fee for us in the US after the Euro to $$ exchange. AS a careful spender, it seemed like a lot compared to the other EQ's I've purchased. BUT - worth every penny now that I've had the experience. The Miads are not too well known yet (but that will be short lived I suspect) and come in well over the $4k mark for a pair w/ power supply. Speaking of which, the power supply is quite beefy, and the EQ;s themselves are quite full featured with a generous amount of well picked frequencies, but not "toooo" tweaky with a million options. Simple, easily recallable (everything is switched except the boost/cut which is clearly marked and easily recallable), and you can see what's going on with a quick glance instead of having to lean over to figure it out. I'm glad I got the +/- 12dB version. I don't think the +/- 6dB mastering version would have been enough to satisfy me. As far as EQ's go right now, I've got API 550A's, CAPI BT50's, AML 1073's, Eisen LilPEQr's, CAPI LC25's & LC40's, Trident 80B's, KT-EQP's, Silver Bullet HF/LF Baxendall's and a bunch of D&R's - none of which except the Silver Bullet get used on the 2 Buss or in mastering - and that's what I was after. Over the years I've used just about everything out there (console-wise) except for the high end mastering stuff. Which I think the LCPQ-4040 is purported to be. If so, that certainly makes sense. NONE of the other EQ's or plug-in EQ's I have comes even remotely close - with the exception of the Silver Bullet which is awesome, but limited in scope. (It's an EQ finisher, and a GREAT one at that - but it's not a full featured EQ like the 4040. They actually work awesome together - with the tight filter and vintage filter on the SB engaged, and a touch of "sub" @ 30Hz on the SB and a shelf @ 45Hz on the 4040, my Ac Gtr / stringed based Americana mixes that I was working on just exploded in size. The lower HF options on the 4040 compliment the air on the Silver Bullet in such a nice way to open things up!!) It excels in a 2Buss / Mastering application IMO. The EQ is supposedly "neve" based (I can't confirm or deny that - just something I've heard mentioned), but it makes every 1073/1084 EQ that I've used sound like a grainy toy in comparison. The only thing that comes close to being as elegant sounding as this thing is the Eisen LilPEQr's (which have mariners, but are still not as nice) and the Silver Bullet EQ's. This thing is soooo smooth and elegant and transparently colored - if that makes any sense. The Silver Bullet HF/LF is a tad bit more "obvious", with the 4040's coming in more "organic" sounding. Both are awesome, but after using the SB EQ's on the mix bus for a long time now, it's really great to have 6 freq options to choose from instead of the Silver Bullet's (well chosen for me at least) two. Very sweet. This is probably the most fully featured and best sounding EQ (overall) that I've used. Certainly that I've owned. On the low end, this thing is HUGE. Punchy, full, and I couldn't get it to sound muddy in a normal application. These EQ's are the stuff dreams are made of. I cannot forget how elegantly (sorry, it's hard to find descriptor's) this thing can change mixes. The sound is liquid, alive and so musical. Especially on string based and acoustic musics that I was working on today. Even with all bands in "bypass" - with the unit still in line - the line amps give a nice sound to the Mix. It's more of what I would call a re-shaper than an EQ. It gently and musically refocuses the sonics in such a pleasing way. I'm super happy. I really don't have much time in on it yet, but I suspect I will be further in love next week than I am today. Highly recommended. PS - Oh, yeah....I have a couple of nitpicks with the ergo's, but not with the sound. To bypass an individual band, you have to turn the gray hill switches completely counter clockwise to an "off position". I would much prefer a "on / off" per band button so that I could make instant on/off decisions with one hand instead of two while using the EQ in stereo - clicking through the freq selections to get to "off". And the big yellow knobs are not really my cup of tea, but all of this is really nitpicky dumb stuff. The Miad's ROCK! I'm a happy camper. My mixes / mastering just got 25% better without really trying. Sometimes gear really matters. This is one of those times. Attachments:

Correction : I should mention that I had a conversation with Miad and the EQ's are NOT Neve clones or variants as someone suggested to me. They are original designs of Michalis that span a vintage sound with a modern twist!!! Whatever it is, it's awesome.

I have been eyeing these and want a pair real bad now! Is the 12 DB gain range to much for subtle 2 buss or mastering?

I have been eyeing these and want a pair real bad now! Is the 12 DB gain range to much for subtle 2 buss or mastering? I started mastering an album with them today. I got up to +6 dB ONCE I think. But I'm not regretting ordering the +/- 12dB version. I found it very easy to get the sides matched as the "throw" of the knobs is large, and there's good nomenclature on the front panel, and well....I just found it easy. The EQ is so freaking smooth that even if you're not perfectly matched between L and R channels, it's just creamy and smooth and beautiful. I'm not "hearing" the eq differences as I have on some EQ's. It's very organic sounding.... I can't wait to try it on individual instruments in a mix. You're in the EU right? If so, I think Michalis has some demo units floating around. Do yourself a favor and get a pair to audition if you can. Cheers, bp

Ha! And I thought I was the only lucky one here Absolutely loving mine. On the stereo output it's the obvious thing but you should also try them on the drums group! And on elec. guitars. And on vocals. And on cowbell Looking for a vari-mu compressor to pair them. Any suggestion?

I'm mastering currently, but I WILL be using them on all the things you suggest. I can hear it already in my mind..... I'm wishing i had 4.....

I am definitely in the market for bus EQ but after getting the Manley Mini Massive, which sounds great, that has continuous pots for the amount and the Q curve I have to say it's a lot of hassle to recall.... I'm not even fussy about matching left and right because, analog
So, I am only in the market for all controls switched or stepped.

How do you like the Manley? What's the T-Bar mod? I hear you. More often than not I print some tracks before moving the EQ's into the stereo buss. Time consuming but I can't really help it, lol. javamad, really liking your stuff on soundcloud!

I think so too!!!!!! The T-Bar is a mod that allows replacing the 6386 tubes that originally came in the original versions of the Vari-Mu's (which are dual-triode that is virtually unobtanium in matched pairs) with two 6BA6 to do the job. That's what Manley suggests in newer version unless you are going very minimal amounts of compression. I am usually just brushing it, but even so, I opted for the 'T-Bar' mod.

Thanks! I'll look into it. First time I'm hearing about the T-Bar mod. A bit odd since I've been reading some stuff about vari-mu recently.
