The ADA8200 seems great, the only thing I don't like about it is running the line ins from the front. It's not pretty looking.

Id be interested in an 8200 group buy if it has universal power and does 96k but id need to check local prices too.

What price would the 8200 be with a GB?

the focusrite 8 channal ad/da's are worth the bang for buck. 300 for a used one with compressor for each channel, or you can get your clarrett converter version (i know you like those) for 4-500. reverb.com/item/11096080-focusrite-octopre-mkii

Btw - if anyone wants to do a group buy on these things, I could give some damn good deals. I am interested, let me know how many respond. Best current online price is $155 from dealers selling returns. Thanks

It has to be better than my tango 24 that I use for strip #3, right? I'm in if it gets lower than 150, why not

A quick question on this topic: I go Silver Apollo 8 out plus stereo spdif to my Heritage MCM 8, and since I have a small room and low track counts this works just fine: however I am left with no I/O for hardware inserts: ie overheads->hardware comp->back in-> bussed to drums out. Would chaining the Focusrite or something like it to set up just for inserts be a fool’s errand riddled with delay comp errors, or do you think I could make it work? Obviously clocked to the Apollo. Thanks in advance! P
Edit: always 44.1 or 48

Opinions on the Focusrite 40 vs the Scarlett 18i20 for this application? Thanks for the help guys! hi peter, I've not used the 40 but have used the 18i8 gen 2 for a year now so feel I know it quite well. here is my take on it. the adc is more than good enough for pro use. sure there is better out there but it costs a lot more. the dac is also more than good enough for pro use. stuff I loop out and back sounds fine. again granted there is better out there. the drivers are ok. focusrite has good latency for usb connection. it bugs me a little that occasionally i have to reboot during a session but that has not happened while actually recording. I'm comparing to the lynx converters I use which have better latency and better sound quality and have never had a driver issue ever in 7 years of use. the focusrite mixer is pretty good. not completely intuitive but it only took me 2-3 sessions to start to use it to it's full potential so no complaints there. as far as a device to connect other devices to a computer it's fine. whilst usb is generally never as reliable as pci it's generally more reliable than firewire. the bad.... the headphone amp is not to a pro level. to be honest it's a bit of a surprise its not better considering the conversion is pretty good. I don't think you can do reliable mixes with it. I've done a/b's with my RMA bare beast and it wipes the floor with the focusrite for monitoring. the focusrite is muddy in comparison. at some point when I get a Microsoft surface with usb3/thunderbolt i'll upgrade to the clarett range.

I neglected to mention preamps. They do the job well enough. The di I think sounds pretty good on bass.

you need a super computer that will launch rockets, otherwise, its an Aggravation Device.

Whats the deal with level control on the Sumbus? Are you just meant to push DAW faders around with this box?

Anyone here used an Apogee Rosetta for additional I/O with an Apollo? Thanks!
