Seems like in the age of digital everything is too clean! Then you need to get your hands on the Splice, and switch it to Rev A i/o. That will solve your problem. :-) I've had a pair now for close to a year. Killer. I do tend to keep them on Rev A because I'm looking more for that dirty funky vibe than the cleaner compression of most of the other 1176 clones. From what I've heard, nothing touches the RevA Splice in that respect. Well, other than vintage....

Imagine coming across a dumpster full of 1176's and LA2A's. Man alive that would feel good. It's definitely happened here in LA at least. A buddy who used to work @ Warner Bros. got several LA2A's and 1176's that way. But he did literally have to climb into a dumpster for them..... drBill ! Hey man, glad to see u here. That's something I'd gladly do a dumpster dive for.

That's something I'd gladly do a dumpster dive for. Yeah, wouldn't we all...... heh heh Well, I'm afraid those days are loooooong gone. Now you'll have to dumpster dive for food, and save the money you would have spent on dinner for a splice or chimera....

I don't have a rev d to compare it to, but it definitely nails the 1176 "vibe" and that's all I was looking for. The RevA vibe was a bonus. I trust Mike Pildis implicitly when it comes to compression, and knowing that Dan D was involved too made it a no brainer. I think Mike and his designs are one of the secret weapons for compression out there..... Knowing that he will NOT compromise anything makes it an obvious choice for me over other lower priced (or higher priced) alternatives.

But I've got quick feet, so that may only be applicable to me.....

The Splice sounds really good. When I really get the levels matched very closely w/ the UREI's, they hold up very well. The difference I hear is that the Splice seems a bit more forward sounding... more immediate than the UREI A and D. The UREI's seem to spread out the sound a bit more...hard to put into words but I hear a bit more depth with the UREI's. Still, the Splice is very nice. Now the question is do I grab one (or two) of Mike's remaining stock or wait for the 19" upgraded version?

Not sure if it's stereo, but it would be genious if it was, it would give u 4 units for the price of 1.5? Mike would have a heck of a time keeping them stocked I'd bet!

Sorry for false alarm. I glanced at the new splice unit and saw the word "dual" and quickly assumed it was a two channel. My bad.

Hey guys, Mike here. Thought I'd come join the party. Nice to see all the interest going on and glad everyone's getting excited about the new rack unit. Looks like initial availability will be early April, so not too long. If anyone has any questions just let me know.
Awesome test we got going on here, kudos to everyone putting in the time to do something like this.

And if u will, what exactly gets switched in and out between the rev A and D? Does the noise floor change? Thanx

HI MIKE!!!!!
Do you have any pricing info yet?
Excited to hear both the Chimera and the New Rack Splice. The 500 splices are getting continuous use on high profile mixes here...... The only thing that gets used more is your 3A's.... :-) Looooooove those..
Cheers,
Bill

The new rack unit (Splice Mk II - sorry guys, it's mono) is really feature rich. Any plans for a similarly-featured stereo buss compressor, or at least selling a matched pair at a bit of a discount? Or preferably, a 2-for-the-price-of-one deal for RGO members (we promise to keep it a secret). Also, if you would use a Canadian distributor, that would be really helpful.

"Any plans for a similarly-featured stereo buss compressor," It's already here Les..... Serpent SB4001. It lives permanently on my stereo buss....

drbillI looked at the video on Zen Pro for the Serpent buss comp. I'm in the market for a new buss comp. This one looks good. Do you use the Grind feature much? I was hoping to see what that sounded like but I didn't see Warren engage it. I'm also curious to know if you have used the Neve Portico 2 MBP yet. That one has been at the top of my list but damn it's pricey.

Hi good Doctor, sorry, I meant in a 19" rack. 19 inch or not, the 4001 is a serious contender.... But that said, I believe Mike has a 19" version in the works. An email to him would probably give you a timetable on when that is happening. I believe that like the 19" Splice, it will have some more features than the 500 version. Looking forward to it myself....
