Anyone here make any videos where you screen capture what you are doing on your computer? I was trying to do this today for a video. I got it all set up and found QuickTime was only recording a mono signal. I did some research and it seemed most people were using an after market free program called SoundFlower to allow them to get QuickTime to record in stereo. I tried installing SoundFlower, but can’t get it to work. I figured I’d see if anyone here knew how to make this work. Martin John Butler & bluegrassdan, I know you two make videos all the time, any thoughts?

Hmm, I use my iPhone for video with voice overs, and then import stereo music files in iMovie or Final Cut. I've never done the capture thing, but I've always been curious how it's done. Good luck Vincent, let me know how it works out.

I thought it would be easy to just set up my U87 and dictate while I show people around some tracks I was going to talk about. Figured it would be easy. Apparently SoundFlower does not work for Mac Sierra. Also tried iShowU App, but that didn't work either. All of them end up recording Mono. Maybe I'll see if someone on YouTube responds.

Sorry, I’m of little help. I usually record the video and audio separatly, then sync in FinalCut.
When I had an older iMac with a 1/8” line input, I would go into that out of my interface. Not the ideal way, but it did allow stereo audio in Quicktime screen captures.
I am eager to know how others do this.

Have you tried importing the video into iMovie and just doing video in it ?

I can't even find the app on my computer, although it shows up as an Audio option. I think I'll just do what bluegrassdan advised, which is what I would usually do, just sync the audio with the video in iMovie afterward. Oh, well. The audio will probably sound better that way anyhow.

I've done the Quicktime/Soundflower thing, but only once so I'm not clear on details. I recall there were some tricky parts, mainly to do probably with checking the setup in multiple places:
System pref / sound / input and output Audio MIDI setup Quicktime input setup
I think the quicktime output volume has to be off so it doesn't make a feedback loop, which means you can't monitor throughput.

When I sync audio with iMovie/Final Cut, it does sound much better than when I use a phone or a video camera.

Take a look at Screenflow. I've used it for a while. It does screen cap and also a couple of different audio streams if you wish. There's additional stuff such as callouts titles and so on, and will export either to various video formats or directly to YouTube.

yup, screenflow is where it's at. it can capture all 16 channels from my symphony's inputs simultaneously, as well as the stereo audio output from Logic. basically, whatever audio the computer is sending to the symphony's driver, it captures it as a stereo stream. It's well worth the price.
