So my mbp would boot but I could get no password insert to show, tried reset, that hung my mbp.
Apple support got it going said let’s reinstall OS, but it pulls up el capitaine which I ran what 2-3 years ago?
So, I said let’s load that then I will go to store and reload high Sierra!
Where did it even find el capitaine anyway ?

Well, at least you got yours running! There is always a recovery of the original os the unit was shipped with, unless you do a fresh full reload.
My mini started an endless reboot loop... I am hoping it's the PSU, since it gets to login but then the pic freaks out and it reboots. I accidentally unplugged the battery backup, then oh that's fine it just the battery backup... The battery will keep everything running. Nope, Mac chimed and rebooted and stayed that way.

Drag! The applehelp used a different command to stop my reboot sequence. Have you called: it was free!

I didn't call, I used every command known and no dice. It is acting like my old HP Z800 did when its PSU died, figured a $40 investment is worth it. I may take the trip to the Apple store if the psu does not work.

If you go to the store make an appointment. I was going to have to wait over a week to see someone: phone call was immediate and free!!
Thank you Apple support !
