Often been interested in the eq because it's 4 band and particularly the cut at 500hz.

The trident A Ranges although similar were a tad bigger more open sounding.the balanced DI on the rack was fantastic.a favorite. but they were kind of a pain in the ass. consistency module to module is tad random like eq points and gains. A fader goes bad and your outta luck.

You think ?😁 I was in smart once and Zirkel was trying to EQ a stereo reverb return and in order to get 2 ch reasonably close he had to use ch literally on each end of the thing !

I've owned and own the Daking Mic Pre/EQ. It is a punchy tone with good clarity. Close-mic'ing drums, a and e guitars, piano, vox. I don't think it sounds particularly great pushed into distortion, so I generally keep the output up. I really love the unique EQ feel and points. I acquired a Trident Reissue A Range - the current one- and subsequently modded a Daking Mic Pre/EQ with a Sowter 1478 MuMetal Zutt 012A recreation in place of the Jensen input transformer. The Trident is really good too - especially with the output Transformer bypassed and run into other effects, which is a great option. My feeling is that the Daking with the Sowter , without the EQ engaged, matches up very well tonally with the Trident pre. The EQ points are different, and the implementation is different with different inductors, but the basic character is still similar to the Trident - which is a little warmer and has a bigger overall EQ and soundstage than the Daking IMO. To be clear, to me, the stock Daking is every bit as good as the modded one, or the Trident. It's a great preamp, all anyone really needs. But I like the modded flavor because it is unique, and I'm stuck with it anyway now that I mucked it up. It was close enough to the Trident that I sold the Trident. I had the opportunity to scoop up some older Daking 52270 mic pres late last year and I'm thrilled with them. The combination of the Coles 4038s and some high-end EQ boost on drum overheads produce the best sound I've yet to hear in my room. I just picked up a vertical lunch box too. Didn't necessarily need it, but just had to have it.
