It seems there has been some mixed reviews of this mic on this forum. I don't have a lot of experience with it yet but so far I like it. It's slightly different sounding than my Charter Oak m900's which are pretty sqeaky clean. This has a slight vibe to it in the mids like my c7s. Subtle, though. Lot's of detail but that's what I use an SDC for. It's not un-warm which is nice. I had a Josephson c42 for a minute that was also nice but probably a little light in the pants and high fi for most of my situations. Just improvised this upon recording. Just imagine a modern western scene where two outlaws are fighting over a...... new Neumann u67 reissue. While a jealous damsel looks on wondering where all the cowboys of old went. Miktek C5 acoustic guitars, mandolin, shaker, snare drum

I love my C5, I think its a great mic. I also have a pair of Beyer mc930's and the C5 is more "natural" less hyped. I also really like the mc930's though. I wish I had 2 and I'm always hunting eBay for a good deal on a second one. I wish I had the omni capsules too.

Right on! I've heard great things about the Beyer's as well. Do you find them to be darker than the C5's?
Stay on the lookout. I found my C5 for $399 on ebay brand new with the omni capsule included. Not to rub it in or anything. But they are out there.

They have presence for sure, but they don’t feel hyped to my ears. Never tried the Miktek but everyone I know who has used them seemed to dig them.

I don't actually think of Breyer mc930's being "hyped", just comparatively they're brighter than the c5. That can be a good or bad thing. It can accentuate sybilance on bad sounding cymbals or overly bright acoustics whereas the c5 is more natural sounding to my ears. Both are great and I have no regrets using either in any situation.

I got mine on eBay for $250, but only the cardioid capsule and it didn't come with any accessories (no box, no mic clip, no shock mount etc). But it was so cheap I couldn't not buy it.

They might not be KM84s, but they are still very nice.

Three weeks ago I saw a miktek c7 on ebay for $300, I've been wondering about this mic for a long time because I like my cv4 and my c5. So I bid and somehow I was the only bidder. It was a total impulse buy and thought I'd turn around and sell it for a profit. So I got my mic and used it today for the first time. . .and yeah, I'm keeping it. Really wishing I didn't like it cause I could use the money.

Really wishing I didn't like it cause I could use the money. Oh wow. That is insane. Lowest I got a c7 for was 560 like new. The c7 is a stunning mic. It doesn't have "the classic sound" we all know, but something all it's own, it seems. It has such an intensely detailed mid. It makes things sound forward and vibrant to me. Great for my own vocals where I want that more modern sound. The cv4 is a great mic. I was at Bias in Springfield, VA a couple summers ago and they were wrapping up a session a freelancer did there. Now, this place has been around for decades and Bob Dawson has quite a collection of mics. I think 6 u47s. I'm sure others too but everywhere I looked was a vintage 47 basically. C12a's and the like (though the intern mentioned that Bob sold all their u67s because no clients liked them and just describe them as midrangey and dark haha) The mic on the vocals? Miktek cv4.

Mister Chase So I just got a chance to listen to your clip, great job man! That acoustic dead center sounds really good, very mid rangy in just right way, nice and balanced. Is the track finished or are you still working on it?

Is the track finished or are you still working on it? Many thanks for the kind words! It's actually just something I made up on the spot to show what the c5 sounded like. After the center guitar was done I just dubbed on. Maybe it'll be the basis for a film style of music. Many of these improvised clips turn into tunes down the road...

Dont forget the PM5 is just a C5 with a ball on the end. Great mic on axis but starts to get coloured off axis. Beyer mc930's tend to stau true to the sound on and off axis just likea km84. I love beyer mc930's . They are very clear no veil to the sound.
