So i see we are up to serial number 30 something on the JC37. Did anyone here actually order one of these? And Did Sony make a multipattern version of this mic? Cheers

So i see we are up to serial number 30 something on the JC37. Did anyone here actually order one of these? And Did Sony make a multipattern version of this mic? Cheers The Sony c37a has selectable “uni directional” (cardioid) and “non directional” (omni) that is selected by turning a screw at the rear of the capsule that mechanically moves a “shield” into place to derive the pattern. Not sure about these clones from Tonelux.

Here’s a quote from Joe Chicorelli on GS “We made a few changes to modernize the mic. I felt the HP and LP filters were not needed as most everyone has that capacity on their preamps. Plus the circuitry in the original was not the most High fidelity. We choose only Cardiod again because the crude manner in which the original achieved the pattern selection seemed a bit archaic and perhaps not needed in most modern day recording situations. The good news is if someone really wanted a dual pattern it could be specially made with the mechanical device as in the original.
We did modernize the power supply for more stability and lower noise. ”

Thanks guys yes that makes sense. I dont know, I kind of like the option of polar patterns, but maybe not with that "archaic" method. Cardioid it is then.

It sounds a teeny bit fuller, compared to the original/vintage Sony 37a... That was right next to it at NAMM. I ended up singing "some Frank" on it, while Joe C. was present-so that was fun! He agreed with my evaluation BTW. Chris P.S. My favorite 4 microphones "looks-wise"... Are the 44 ribbon/U47/Heiserman Type-19, and the C37a styles.
