hey there brains trust. i bought some waves plug ins April 2017 as they were on sale and i wanted to try them. i was just on the waves site loking at a few more and i stumbled on the Wave Update Plan where it listed my plug ins were runnnig out on April 2018. Does this mean i only bought them for a year's use? I am not on any monthly or yearly subscription deal as i was not interested in that. So what happens after April 2018 does my waves plug ins cease to work ? Cheers for anyone who knows something.

Let me start off by stating that I don't definitively know, but I'm pretty sure I received a similar e-mail from Waves something like a year ago. I didn't do anything, and my plugs still work. I'm quite sure I purchased lifetime licenses for the plug, at least that was my expectation when I purchased them. That said, I'm not sure about up-grades or up-dates, but I can tell you that if I was charged for the latter, I would be quite displeased. As long as I have access to the version I paid for, I suppose I can't complain ..but I do expect up-dates for things like bug-fixes to be free.
Diving in a little deeper - It's not the only reason I'm wary about buying too many products from Waves - or really, any third party software co that requires some kind of authentification link upon installation. It's one thing if they pull an Avid, but what happens if the company were to fold, or was sold to a party that refused to support "legacy" titles? I've been screwed before.

My understanding is that the plug-ins will still work, but the ability to receive free or discounted updates to your plug-ins will expire. My WUP expired years ago but the plug-ins all seem to function just fine.
Having said that though, I haven't purchased anything from them in a very long time and their policies have probably changed - it always seemed to me as if they were intentionally vague about those policies and just what they mean.

My WUP also expired without me renewing it and all my Waves plugins work fine. I have since purchased plugins from Waves and have had no problem purchasing and downloading them from the Waves website them and using them. I find Waves installation software (Waves Central) much easier to use than iLok.

Phew, Waves terrible plugin manager and WUP......again I haven't ever purchased WUP but as mentioned your plugins will still work.
Waves new system for it licencing/antipiracy is fairly poorly implemented. People complain about iLok but at least you still have your plugins when your computer goes down. Its a shame for paying users when it is much easier to pirate their plugins than purchase them legitimately.

You can make a ilok type USB key with the waves software if you want, then it's not relying on the software.

My Waves plugs are five years old, and I never upgraded anything, and they work as they should. I won't buy anything from companies with those kinds of policies again. UAD is annoying enough with their lock out for selling or trading. I'd love to be able to sell a few UAD plugs, or trade them in. Your Waves plugs will work regardless, hopefully there aren't any big bugs that force you to buy into their program.
