MBHO 440's
What's the word on these? Ultra clean and fast?

Thanks, I did read that after I posted. It's still a little difficult to get a real sense of the mics. This stems off my other thread with recording a quiet/dynamic guitarist.

My gut says the extended lows and brighter highs would show as even greater dynamics in your situation, and not dynamics you want. More thumps and edgy transients, when those events occur.
I'd like to hear a KM131. In fact, I'll trade my KM140's for a pair of KM131's.
You might look at the Line Audio OM1 or CM3. Both seem like good contenders for close miked sources. I'd lean to OM1 for your source, to avoid proximity effect. I haven't heard either personally, only posted samples and comparisons, FWIW.

I am debating between these and the 3U 127's

127's mostly look to all have a treble peak, flattest being the flat cardioid, and it's gonna have proximity to fight in your app.
On paper the 127-O-flat wins on self noise and sensitivity, less external gain needed. In my similar app a DPA 4060 won, and it has much higher self noise, wasn't a problem
On paper OM1 wins for response, level handling, and price. They get used in a lot of classical distant situations where noise and sensitivity become more critical, and that doesn't seem a problem. It would need more external gain.
MBHO has good self noise, if I compared correctly they had the least S/N.
None of that says anything about what they sound like in person, this stuff is frequently contradictory.

Similar to schoeps but not quite the detail, on the wrong source can seam very edgy and peaked, better as a distance mic. LDC caps have been used by many of the favorite boutique builders.
