Anyone going to NAMM this year? I'll probably be on the Bock booth. Hope to see some of you.

Just read that Gibson is bailing, just doing the Ces in Vegas.
Cheers, Geoff

I've decided to skip this year. It's been a very very expensive year and I need the time and money for other things. I'm disappointed I won't be there now, timcampbell , as I would love to meet you. Let me know if you're heading back to Mass afterwards and I'll get that 'problem child' to you, there.

I've got a gig on Thursday in San Diego, but I'll be at NAMM Fri, Sat and Sun. Would love to meet any and all RGO'ers attending. I'll check the Bock booth, Tim.

Skipping the madness this year. My wife is going. These trade shows seem to be a dying breed with the internet substituting for much of it.
I remember when AES was a large show decades ago. No more. They used to team up with SMPTE in LA. SMPTE stopped that 20 odd years ago and they only do CES now, like Gibson.
It may be because of NAMM management. CES is rather hard to get into if you are not an industry buyer. NAMM is easy and the booths are full of old tall hair guys looky-louing at everything. That hurts business there. Gibson knows where the buyers are. They will be in Vegas.

I was talking to Paul Reed Smith on New Year's Eve, he said very little business gets done at NAMM now, it's a social event and a party. I haven't been in two years, but I like going. I know a lot of people in the MI business that I won't see otherwise.

The show was about mom & pop writing orders, mom and pop don't exist anymore so now it's all about entertaining the big boys and what passes for press.

We'll be upstairs around the corner from Universal Audio - Booth 12126. We'll have some swag and a few of our new CA-70s single channels on display. Actually the listening station will be a 6x2 Coil 'Mixer' (6 modules as channel strips and 2 of the new singles acting as summing amps for the L/R).
Come over and say hi!

The show was about mom & pop writing orders, mom and pop don't exist anymore so now it's all about entertaining the big boys and what passes for press. It's also about trying to avoid the hall where 40 bass and drum demos are going on all at once. Ten minutes of that and your ears have the frequency response of a carbon microphone. Looks like they've rearranged the halls for this year, so I'll have to work out a whole new avoidance strategy!

You leave the room like this...

I only went once and that was enough noise for a lifetime. I generally work the AES booth at summer NAMM using hearing protection. They posted a nice interview with me a few years ago.

Modern NAMM is quite tame compared to the 1970's. We called those "the days of lines and noses".

Great meeting you, Tim. Lots more pro audio than years past. Met Adam Fiori and Wade Goeke from Chandler. Saw Mike Ketchell from Miktek. At Tech21, here's Eric Bloom, me, Doug Pinnick (King's X) and Leland Sklar (James Taylor, more.)
