The article with the link below says the backing tracks were cut in Scholz's Boston home studio using Scholz's 12-track Scully recorder/Dan Flickinger console. Brad Delps vocals were recorded in LA with a Neumann solid-state 87, running through a Quad Eight console. The mixing was done in LA with John Boylan on an unautomated API console with Scholz and one other person riding the faders. www.mixonline.com/recording/classic-tracks-bostons-more-feeling-374326The letter below, written by Scholz, is interesting in describing how much the Boston album was basically an overdubbed Scholz solo project instrumentally, with Delp as the singer and a drummer. www.boston.org/officialletter.html

Wow, a great article about things I was only vaguely aware. I loved that first album and it was pretty much the soundtrack I hear in my head when I think back to my last two years of high school.

I feel his pain. It takes years to develop mojo inside of a band. If you are one of the guys that hears an orchestra in your head, trying to explain parts to most people is impossible. People joke with me when I talk sounds to drummers, but when they play it, they hum along just fine.
Cool knowledge bomb!

I'm not sure what he was using but there's plenty of pics of it in this video. I seem to remember another video floating around where he talked more in depth about the production process and also about about how his electronics company became more important to him after he received Jeff Beck's warranty registration card for his Rockman.
