Here's a heads up about a cool plugin developer: www.audiothing.netThey have a Christmas sale going on, I picked up Outer Space (Roland Space Echo), Type A (Dolby encoding emulation) and Speaker (cheap speaker emulation, a lot of fun!).

All my money goes into HW in 2018. Bill is right 9 of 10 times the HW does what the doctor calls for.

Absolutely. I have filled up my racks already! I'd love to have a real Space Echo but the prices are crazy, and I already have a WEM Copicat. I think the other two plugins are cool and not easily replicated with hardware...

I'm thrilled with my room, and have made a commitment to not buy any more i/o for PTHDX or any more gear unless dramatically necessary. But who am I fooling. That said, I'm pretty close to being "done for good"....

That said, I'm pretty close to being "done for good".... I just can speak for myself. I had in the past very often that "Woha I need this too, otherwise I cant work anymore" syndrom. Special with digital tools. But the truth is: For a good sounding track you dont need a million digital t(f)ools. I guess your sessions are bigger than mine, but the more hardware I use the more KISS my mixes/arrangements get. The best of it all is I tend to buy used low to mid budget hardware. Good for me, good for the environment. Since I use more and more hardware I get mixing requests. But I dont mix for bands or anything else. It is my home studio myspace to hyde from the noise of the modern world.

I bet $100 no one could consistently tell the difference in a real space echo and the plug. Or maybe I should say objectively say one sounds better than the other.

FWIW I worked a lot at a studio that had two Space Echoes (201 and 301). Today I fired up the plugin for the first time to test it and the sound was INSTANTLY familiar. It sounded like a Space Echo!

I know a bunch of people that ditched the SE HW and the BX20 HW for the software versions...I use both all the time.

Once again tomorrow I will have Lasagne for dinner. To each his own, to my ear hardware still sounds great and is the easy way from A to B. Can I do the same with plug ins sure - but to me its hours of fumbling and I dont have the time for this.

I’ve had to deal with maintaining a BX20 - what a pain in the ass. The UA plug is awesome.
Love the Space Echo one as well. Still Will use a Fulltone Tape Echo on certain mixes, but dumped the 201’s.

bought the outer space and the type A, they sound great and the instant recall is wonderful.
We have a single space echo here at the studio and this sounds like a cleaner kept version with additional features.
The idea of getting the sound on as many instances without having to print a stem every time was the motivating factor. Especially at $39. Would recommend.
